  1. Hello @Triple-o these understring radius gauges may help with determining your fretboard radius. Understring Radius Gauges I will be interested in seeing any solution you find to the bridge sanding problem. I have just sanded down a bridge myself today. Inthink it went ok and the guitar plays better but it is a worry that it will end up uneven. Keep us posted!
  2. Here are some mixes containing my lead guitar parts. I played simple single note stuff in the solo and the intro and for fills in the chorus. After playing around with various amps in GarageBand I found myself in the "Experimental" amps section where I tried out an amp effect called "Cascade". It sounds a bit like bells to me. I asked Fretless' opinion on this and he said that the reverb in the "Cascade" effect made the guitar solo sound like it was being played from further away than the rhythm guitar. Fretless gave me 2 paramaters to adjust 1) to adjust the volume of the rhythm guitar down or 2) to adjust the reverb on the lead guitar down. I found that the reverb was set to 2 on the lead guitar so I turned it down to 0.5, but I did not think that the effect was quite enough to bring the solo forward so I adjusted the volume of the rhythm guitar down a bit during the solo using GarageBand automation. Here is my first mix GG3 Lead Mix V1 with the solo guitar sounding far away Here it is after the adjustments GG3 Lead Mix V2 Does it sound better? Did I go far enough with the adjustments or too far? One more thing............ I am always looking of ways to make the chorus' build and since I have just started to learn harmonica I thought that I would have a go at doing some simple notes in the background of the 2nd and 3rd chorus. I am not sure whether it works or it just adds some high notes which interfere. What do you all think? GG3 Harmonica lead mix
  3. I am having a go at doing the lead guitar bits, I will hopefully be able to post something in a day or two!
  4. Thank you @Blue Dog. You have given me a lot of information. Sorry I have not written back to you sooner but I put this song on hold in order to work on the GG3 Collaboration. I have however started to use the good advice that you and gotto gave me on GG3!
  5. Excellent stuff Ice9. That is great news about your amp doing a brilliant job. I am sure that the Epi based guitar did a superb job also and that it has earned some respect. ? I bet the gig was fun! Enjoy, ????
  6. Thank you Fretless, I have been working on my voice but I did run my vocal track through Melodyne and manually adjust a few notes so it could be mainly due to that!? I have uploaded both of the vocal tracks to box. OK folks, we need a volunteer to do the lead guitar stuff please.
  7. OK here is a draft mix containing me singing the whole song and Fretless making it a duet for the chorus'. GG3 Vocal mix I added reverb to both the vocal parts. I kind of like it. Does it work? Any suggestions?
  8. Thank you for the draft lyrics Fretless, they are extremely helpful. I have been working on them today. I think it is coming along nicely.
  9. Well done Watson43 great job all round. I really enjoyed it.
  10. "The ballad of Nehemiah" - This is impressive Fretless. I admit that I had to look up Nehemiah. Here is a link for anyone else who does not know Wikipedia on Nehemiah I do not know if I can do this beautifully written song justice! If you wish I am more than happy for you to sing it. Or we could do a bit each. Or we could use my vocals as backing/harmony on the chorus with a bit of help from Melodyne?
  11. Hello @Fretless have you been able to make a start writing the song or do you need me to do another mix? If no one else volunteers to sing it I will be happy to oblige.
  12. Thank you @gotto I like it! I have replaced the original version with the new improved version. I think it helps the chorus' to sound like they are built up more.
  13. I have uploaded the new version of the bass track. I can not find a high quality copy of your rhythm track without the clicks, I used the mp4 version for my rough mix. Am I having a senior moment??
  14. No, I have to defend the rhythm guitar player. The song structure only said that there would be 2 chords per bar, it did not specify how many beats or part beats each would take. The rhythm guitarist used artistic licence, after all it was the first recorded track so everything was fluid. It really does work!
  15. Thank you Greg. I will have a go at adding some fills in the chorus breaks and upload version 2 later.
  16. WOW! Thank you Fretless, this is an excellent lesson on timing. ??Thank you so very much for telling me (and any other beginners who are reading this thread). I really love it when our collaborations can also help others as well as those participating. I knew that there was something wrong with my mix but I had not figured it out, I brushed it under the carpet and decided that I would deal with it later. I think that was wrong of me because it is probably best to build a mix track by track. I should get the tracks to match up and sound good before I try to add another track to the mix. I made an incorrect assumption that each chord in the rhythm guitar parts of the chorus and intro had an equal number of beats when I planned my bass track. I have to learn to hear what I am listening to and analyse it. Thanks to the superb advice above I have now moved each bass note that lands on beat 3 (of the introduction and each chorus) by 1/2 beat forward and then in GarageBand I moved the whole bass track forward so that the peak of the bass notes are on the beat (hopefully). I also doubled up on the rhythm tracks and panned one track 1/2 to the left and the other 1/2 to the right. I then listened to the new improved version (V2) and then to my original mix (which you can still listen to in my post above). Wow, what a massive difference! GG3 V2 Bass Rhythm Drums Fretless, this is an excellent lesson and I can not thank you enough. Please let me know if I have not got the positioning of the bass right. I am still learning to hear!??
  17. I have just done this bass track. I did it on an acoustic bass for a change but recorded via an acoustic amp. I had a go at muting the notes during the verses with a polishing cloth. GG3 Bass Rhythm and drums
  18. Thank you Wim and Diane, yes I am influenced quite a bit by Blondie, my husband has been playing "Parallel Lines" a lot lately. Now Debbie Harry, she had real attitude. I also like the attitude/style of Hazel O'Connor in her "Breaking Glass" Album and film.
  19. OK folks, Gotto has produced a rhythm track and uploaded it to box along with this interim mix of the drums and the rhythm guitar GG3 Rhythm and drums Thank you Gotto, great job! I think it is sounding superb. Now I will get to work on the bass part!
  20. Fretless, thank you for producing all of those iterations of your rhythm track and uploading them. I have successfully imported them all into a new project which I did preset at 112bpm and played them all back at the same time and each on their own. They all play perfectly and all in time with each other. Wow, I can do 24-bit! ? I love the new rhythm track, it sounds superb!
  21. Have you noticed bits of classical music appearing in modern day songs? I noticed that Billy Joel's "This Night" song chorus uses the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Pathétique Sonata A comedian Rob Paravonian rants about how much Pachelbel's Canon in D appears in popular songs. It is food for thought! What have you noticed?
  22. Hello all. This is a song that I created in GarageBand where I played all of the instruments except the drums which were done by the GarageBand drummer. I would appreciate any comments on how it could be improved (except sack the singer, all the guitarists and the producer!)? Thank you for taking the time listen to it.
  23. I am using the latest version of Garageband. I have been doing a really comprehensive course on Udemy which has shown me all(?) of the superb features that it has and I need to start using them. I am already using Garageband to correct the timing of my strumming and lots of the plugins and presets for EQ etc. I also have Audacity and Melodyne Essentials. The file formats that Garageband can cope with: AIFF CAF WAV AAC (except protected AAC files) Apple Lossless MP3 It needs to be 44.1kHz and a bit depth of 16 bits MIDI Note added later - I can export AIFF to 24 bit quality so it might take in 24 bit, we could give it a try.
