  1. Very Well Done Skip! Not an easy tune I imagine. Nice clear playing and recording quality excellent. 👍
  2. If there is ever a " Student Perseverence Award" Doug should be the 1st recipient!
  3. Ok Steve; For all the gearheads out there... If you HAD to pick ONE GUITAR out of your collection of "tools", to the exclusion of all the others, which one would it be? 🙂
  4. Interesting discussion just in time for tonights Live Lesson of "Pedals, Cables & Gear, OH MY!" It would be interesting for Steve K, who has (I think) 5 or 6 guitars (all different) on which one he'd choose if he could have only ONE.
  5. Congrats on your progress and all the best Ron. 🎸👍
  6. While I dont often post YouTube videos, this one may help you decide the above question... ( and maybe curb / rethink that Guitar.Aquisition.Syndrome ) (confession time; I have 4 and thinking thats probably enough.... except I really like..)😉
  7. @SteveT Thumb and wrist position is better in photo 2, but as @Eracer_Team-DougH says you could turn your thumb a bit more towards the headstock. Try for something that feels natural and not strained, yet allows you to reach the low E easily. This will become even more important with barre chords. An improper position can cause undue strain and injury over time (even Steve K has had wrist issues occasionally) As Doug says, there are those players that us a "wrap around " or baseball grip, but in the end I think they hamper themselves trying to reach strings.
  8. @SteveT Good idea to check. I suggest you lower your thumb position towards the centre a bit and relax your wrist with a slight natural bend. Your can also raise the heatstock/ neck angle too. You'll feel more relaxed and be able to playy chords and single notes more easily. While playing seated, whether restiing the guitar on either thigh, try raising that leg with a footstool. (I use an adjustable one like classical players use. And also, use a good confortable shoulder strap too, even while seated. This adds stability and. allows the player to move their hands freely without supporting the instrument.
  9. You could tune it down a 1/2 step to Eb, of whole step to D to reduce the string tension and just play it until you find a luthier to look at it. You coulalso contact Fender for advice.
  10. @constancr I recommend that you go through the course sequentially as each lesson is designed to build on all those that come before. If you skip ahead you will be missing viral information and skills.
  11. @Randy120Well played Randy. 👍🎸Good clean chords, in time, and good finger picking too.
  12. @Strings @Dave WhiteI suggest you email Steve at service@guitargathering.com and let him know

    "Sunny"

    Version 1.0.0

    948 downloads

"Sunny" is a soul jazz song written by Bobby Hebb in 1963. It is one of the most performed and recorded popular songs, with hundreds of versions released. BMI rates "Sunny" #25 in its "Top 100 songs of the century".[1] It is also known by its first line: "Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain".[2] Credit for this Lead Sheet; Frank Vignola (From the Truefire "Jazz Studio" ) My recording of this song; Tip on playing this song; It's all about the rhythm! Listen to the original version on YouTube and the many other recordings by various artists. The melody is actually quite simple, based on the Am Pentatonic Scale, played in the 5th position. Have fun with it! Neil
  14. Thank you very much Greg! "Sunny" is alot of fun to play and really not that hard to play. I'll post the lead sheet in Downloads for you and others. Getting the hang of recording takes a while... hopefully the recordings are getting better as I go.

  16. Hi Steve; Question; Do you have any tips for reading chords in notation? Kindest regards; Neil
  17. I'd certainly agree. I would also have to say Wim is likely our most advanced "graduate student" on this forum at this time, (at least of those that post songs). Wim has an impressive collection of tunes on SoundCloud. If you're someone who has progressed to this level, we'd love to hear your recordings too. N
  18. Terrific Wim! This is not an easy tune to get right... you captured the feel which is the toughest part... and the bends to pitch! I wanted to hear more.... I expected to hear SRV singing the 2nd verse. 😉
  19. @Skip Russell If I could offer a suggestion... You could work on your phrasing a bit more; smoother with a bit of swing, maybe a slide or two. It would make a big difference.
  20. Yes. Sure wish i could. But I'll see Mom and Dad again someday. And yes; drop what your doing that's so important and call you Mom or Dad now. Even if you don't have anything special to say. Mom's especially just want to hear the sound of your voice. N ps Thank you for remembering Doug.
  21. @Skip Russell Very nice Skip! I see you've been a member for a while.. It's great to see you postig a song here. Also to have another jazz guitar enthusiast too! Well done on the song (I didnt know this one) I hear your rhythm track as well. Recording good and clear. I enjoyed listening... let's hear some more. Happy Tunes; Neil
