  14. From when I was about 5 yrs. old, I still have my "Roy Rogers" holster set... sadly the "silver" cap guns with "pearl handles" got worn out and discarded after hundreds of shots... brown furry cow hide with "silver" and "jewel" adornments.. western was all the rage in the "50's" I have a vague recollection of a vest and hat to match... long gone... oh well; Happy Trails!
  15. QUESTION FOR TONIGHT'S LIVE LESSON WITH HOWARD ALDEN; 2 PARTS; A. WHEN APPROACHING A NEW SONG,( POSSIBLY ONE NEVER HEARD BEFORE, HOW DOES HOWARD LEARN AND MEMORIZE THE SONG? DOES HE READ NOTATION, THEN PRACTICE /PLAY IT OVER AND OVER UNTIL IT'S MEMORIZED? DOES HE ALWAYS PLAY THE SONG NOTE FOR NOTE, OR IS MUCH OF IT IMPROVISED? B. DOES HOWARD HAVE TO TRANSPOSE OR RE-WRITE /ARRANGE A SONG WRITTEN FOR 6 STRINGS TO ACCOMMODATE THE 7 STRING GUITAR? THANK YOU HOWARD FOR SHARING YOU KNOWLEDGE WITH US!
  16. WOW Really looking forward to this one! I well remember Howard who was on the LL program a couple of years back (woah I cant believe it was almost 5 yrs ago!) ... a great artist and gentleman. (If you think 6 strings is enough, watch Howard play 7 strings :-) Thank you Steve for bringing us superb guest artists!
  17. This was not intended to be an "exclusive " forum but rather one with a more local focus. If /when any gatherings, jams, etc. materialize, I'm sure any member, from wherever, would be welcome.
  18. When I started the LMG Sesson 11 topic, this was what I had in mind.... A topic for each of the Sessions so members who are still working on the LMG course (there must be hundreds) could post their progress, and receive the encouragement and advice that was so good about the "old " LMG Student forum. To get the ball rolling, all it would take is for someone (Matonanjin ? ) to fill in a topic for each session 1 through 20, and start afresh. If "old " questions can me populated, then time and effort permitting, fine. Comments?
  19. Thank you gentlemen ... I shall gratefully taken your advice. I have some arrangements of these songs and have "taken a shot" at them, but of course there is room for improvement.
  20. Wim Thanks very much for your gracious comments and the "Misty" song chart... I probably should break down and buy a "Real Book" with all the "standards' in it which would give me a lifetime of song material.. (man they are expensive here... ) I bought the 2 Barry Galbraith Jazz Guitar books from Steve's site a while back. I hammered away at "Darn that Dream" ( I started to call it "Darn that Song!) for a couple of months, and got the A section down passably, but at the time I found it much more than "not overly difficult" as Steve described. I'll give it another go.. You playing has been an inspiration to me..so I hope I can reach somewhere near the level that your recordings have demonstrated. If you have any more tips or suggestions, I'd be very grateful. All the Best!
  21. Over the years (mostly on the old "Learn and Master Guitar" discussion board) , there has been some discussion about a "Canadian Members Forum" , where members North of the "49th Parallel" could share information of particular interest locally, and possibly connect more easily. (Not that we have anything against our southern cousins mind you...) I've noticed that we have many more Canadian (and ex -pat's ) members on this site than our previous home, especially in Southern Ontario, Great Lakes region where there must be at least 15. Who knows where this could lead? Maybe a Guitar Gathering North? Local Jam Groups? Group concert dates? A visit from our teacher and mentor Steve Krenz? (Many of us may never make it to Nashville (the cost, time, distance etc. but wouldn't mind an hour or two's drive...) If you're a proud Canadian, a positive, supportive guitar student/player/performer. and your interested in connecting with more local like minded enthusiasts , why not go ahead and chime in, introduce yourself and connect. ( I'm aware there is a Member Map) Why not click on the 'FOLLOWING" TAB top right, and see how this progresses. If you folks think this is a good idea, then great...(if not, well, nothing ventured nothing gained...) I'm from Caledon Ontario, northwest of Toronto, (just north of City of Brampton, really).
  22. Congratulations on your purchase! May you have many years of learning and enjoyment from it.
  23. Did you try plugging the amp into a different outlet? It's possible there is a ground issue with your electrical outlet in the house, or reverse polarity.
