I would echo these remarks saying that I'm sure most members are familiar with most of these guitar gurus's on YouTube (I've watched hundreds of guitar videos there). But as for my main focus i have stuck to Steve Krenz's  LMG course , supplemented with Fretboard Workouts,  and found it to be more than enough for general learning purposes. When one tries to go in several directions at once, it's very hard to measure your progress and actually accomplish much.

Yes, I have heard of and visited most of those sites. There is so much to learn and always some shiny new learning material to distract me. As Neil said, when I try to use too many resources at once, I don't accomplish much (except for raising my frustration level).

Its all @Dave White 's fault HE started it! ?   (All you guys are on probation for highjacking..?)

All I did was mention my boxed set of White Album 8-track tapes (which ironically are black).

    Well - OK, I did mention a few a few auto-related items. ?

Here you go - back to the thread:

Plantsman, I'm betting you know what a "Hurst" shifter is.  But I'll also bet that other than you and I there are only a few others on here that do.

My '55 had a Hurst shifter - it had been drag raced in a former life. All in all it was pretty cool - however, I think I will stick with guitars. ?

'55 Chevy with a Craig 4/8 track floor mounted tape deck!

Had my 8-track mounted on the floor (under the seat). I could remove and pop in tapes without taking my eyes off the road. (Except when the tape broke and then it was chaos.) ?

  5. I can't add much to what Diane has already posted above.

Yes, the accommodations are cozy - several rooms had up to five occupants - and most were sleeping in bunk beds - and sharing a bathroom. However, the Deer Run Lodge is a wonderful venue, perfect for our little retreat.

The food was excellent - and coupled with snacks during breaks, it felt like we were eating all the time. (I was relieved to step on the scale when I got home and found I somehow had not gained any weight).

Last year's fall retreat was over-the-top great - one of the best events I have ever attended. However, Steve and Paulette managed to make this year's retreat even better. The line-up of artists was outstanding - and they were not only superb musically - but were so personable and eager to spend time with us before and after their performances. Two examples: after Trevor Gordon Hall performed, I commented on how much I enjoyed his tune 'A Severe Mercy' - and that led to a thirty minute discussion of our mutual appreciation for the writings of C.S. Lewis. As Diane said above, Phil Keaggy joined us for dinner. He asked all of us around the table to say our names. After Phil played for us and performed an encore with Trevor, I asked him to sign one of his DVDs. He looked at me and said - 'You are Dave - correct?' - and I was not wearing a name tag!

The very best part of the entire week was spending time with great friends - many of whom I only see once or twice a year.

Thanks to Steve and Paulette for all their planning, hard work, and hospitality. And thanks to everyone who attended for the time we were able to spend together. I can't wait until next year!

When you think about it, arent bridge pins kind of a strange, primitive  method of holding a string under so much tension?

(My Ovation and Godin dont have them either)

I was thinking the same thing while watching several of our performers during the fingerstyle retreat. I noticed several guitars - including (I believe) Trevor Gordon Hall's incredible guitar - that did not use bridge pins (the strings were pulled straight through the bridge). That seems like a much more efficient way of doing things.

Wow! Wish I would have known about this a few weeks ago. I have a house in Franklin NC and I'll be driving from Franklin to Raleigh next week. I've seen that Godin guitar and probably would have bought it too. I'm thinking about doubling my guitar collection by adding a nylon string guitar. Probably should get better at playing the one I have now first.

The next Carolina Guitar Show is scheduled for March 23 & 24, 2019 in Asheville.
