  1. Hi Greg, I used to play 2h a day between 2012 and 2016. So basically my Gibson Les Paul Standard 2013 was all the time on my guitar stand next to one of my Marshall 1w My music room have a humidifier and I keep all the time the humidity around 45%-50% during the winter and during the summer I use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity around again 45%-50% . Now since 2016, I have 2 childrens, my son of 4 years old and my little daughter of 1 year old, I don't play that much and because of my 2 littles ones, my Les Paul is still in my music room but now I left my guitar in her case 99% of the time. Is it bad to leave a guitar inside the original Gibson case or not ? I hear some urban legends that a guitar needs to breath to be in top condition, so leaving a guitar for an extended period inside a case is bad. For the record, even if I don't play as much as I want, I do a setup twice a year around november and may (full setup and a new set of strings) Thanks for your input
  2. Hey Greg, Just wondering what you recommend as far as keeping your acoustic humidified in the winter time? I once lived in Florida and had no problems, but now I live in a cold northern city, in a loft in a old building. The humidity gets pretty brutal here in the winter. I have a humidifier built in to the HVAC system that I run all the time, and at the opposite end of the place I have a "whole house" humidifier running most of the time too. I keep my J-45 in its hard case when not in use, and inside the case I have two Oasis humidifiers, one for inside the soundhole and one of the case-mounted ones. I keep these full with distilled water, per the instructions. (I used to use the d'addario packets, but I found that in this climate they wear out too fast to be economical) Most of the time my case humidity hovers around 35%, and in the rest of the house with both humidifiers running, about 30%. So, I just wondered: -What level of humidity does it take to damage an acoustic? How long would it need to be exposed to be damaged? -What are the first signs you typically see on a dry guitar that we should take as a warning? -Are there any specific products you recommend to manage humidity? Thanks!
  3. I went to my local guitar store today and didn't come out with a guitar!!! I actually went to look at one in particular and, of course, fell in love with it. But didn't buy it! And my wife was with me, encouraged me to make an offer it, and I still didn't! And I'm feeling ok! All I came out of the store with was a hygrometer! A D'Addorio Planet Waves Humiditrak. It monitors the humidity in my music room and pushes the results to my phone. I've gone way too long without humidifying my music room and I finally started a humidifier this morning. I have no idea how much damage I done to my guitars. But since I started the humidifier I figured I need to see how it works. The guy that owns the guitar store recommended this one and he uses it in his house. It will be interesting to see how it works! Currently 42% humidity and 71 F! What is everyone else using to humidify your music room and monitor?
