your body seems to let you down a lot.. voice, now the hand (forget what else).. you'll need some physio to get going again with those reattached tendons.

hopefully it heals pain free for you to start playing again in the future.

guess this gives you time to 'brush' up on your theory side of things. maybe even write a few songs while waiting

Ha you are right. I guess I never quite looked at it like that. BUT I'm hoping it's also proof that adversity can be conquered with a little luck a lot of prayer and good doctors lol!!

thanks for the advice. Yes I started ot where she made me that new brace. baby step stretching exercises...

    take care

p.s I did start an on line music theory class which I'm enjoying  very much!!

Thanks for the update, Maria.  I know that it is frustrating not being able to play.  but it sounds like the new teaching helps helps with that.  It's great to hear from you.

Thanks so much for caring. and yes it does take my mind off of it quite a bit between the extra hours I'm not home and the prep time!!

    Thanks again

  4. Hi everyone.

Sorry it’s been so long since I posted

unfortunately the ligament was a complete and total separation (rupture)

this has caused a much longer healing time

after the surgery on April 3 where he drilled into my bone and used an anchor to attach the ligament I had to be in a hard cast for a month

Then he buddy taped my fingers and the OT said I can’t stert strength training until after it heals which can be now additional two to 4 week’s   She made me a special molded brace so that it protects it and thank God she did as someone in church leaned back last week when they should have been kneeling and I saw stars even with the brace

I see the surgeon again on Jun 1st

bur God is good and I started a new teaching job 5 days after my surgery

so now I teach 4 days and 2’nights  before it was only the 2 nights

so it keeps my mind off of what I can’t do

and boy do I miss playing guitar  but if it was my right hand I wouldn’t be able to teach (write on board etc) so I guess at this point in my life in a strange way it’s a blessing

okay just wanted to catch up and I think of you all often and can’t wait to talk about playing guitars again in the future

  5. hey everyone: I didn't get the news I wanted but I got the news I expected. Next Tuesday I will be going in for surgery to repair the torn ligaments. He said the MRI showed a complete separation of the ligament from the bone. He said he will roughen up the bone. Drill a hole in it and attach an anchor and that will hold the ligament to the bone so it can heal. The swelling is fluid that built up and that is a big indication as well that it's not healing on it's own...

It's going to be a long time before I can play guitar and I'm truly sad about that. It's been over 5 weeks since I played (and 8 since I hurt myself )

it's going to be at least two to three months more......

So next tuesday April 3rd if you could say a little prayer that it's successful that would be awesome. I know it could be worse but i'm just feeling a little blue today. I'll get used to the idea and be fine...

Take care and thanks for being my friends for almost 7 years!! * I joined aug 2011 wow ~~

I forgot to mention that my wife found something that really helped her hand. You probably know a lot more about it than I would. It was a wax bath for soaking your hands. The wax is warm so liquid. You keep putting your hand in it and the wax hardened. She said it warmed and soothed deeper into her hand. Just a thought. You just peel off the wax, and it makes some weird shapes. Put the wax back in the bath and that's it for cleanup.

    Hurry up and heal.

Thank you Maria for sharing these strumming patterns. I was looking for something like this. I also grabbed the Quick Key Decoder while I was on Scott Sharpe's site. :)

Thank you Dave White for posting as well. The Griff Hamlin link was useful too. :)

    Maria,

I really don't know what to say, you just keep getting obstacles in your way!   I know you are a fighter, and this will not keep you down !  I'll be thinking of you and wishing you the most speedy recovery possible !!!

Besides, you always have Saint Vincent by your side !

    Dan Brown

Oh Dan, it's nothing compared to all you went through. But I so seem to be accident prone these last couple of years...and yes St. Vincent will be there...holding my good hand I hope. (someone said they let the spouse in if they don't have metal on etc)

    Take care

    Maria

  10. oh boy!! that is something. Well I'm not looking forward to the MRI but I'm looking forward to figuring out how to fix this so I can play again..that is the WORST part about all this....in my life when things go awry I always had my guitar...even when I couldn't sing for 8 years...I had my guitar....

So i'm hoping to know  a lot more on Monday when I see the doc again

    Maria

  11. Trying to use this time without the use of my left hand to work on the right hand.

This is very basic but it works. My brain needs arrows I guess lol. I did well for the first time in my guitar strumming when I got to the lesson in Steve's Learn and Master Course But I found this little one page sheet and it's nice to jump back in and have it assessible right away (I think because of how good Steve taught me!!)

    Enjoy!

OH it's from Scott Sharp's Fretboard toolbox IT's under the free stuff tab!

  12. Hi I seem to be a bit of a mess....

so I wore a brace for the last 4 weeks hoping the injury to my left hand would be healed.. The injury happened 7 weeks ago but I was misdiagnosed. I couldn't play guitar or uke this whole time....(after the correct diagnosis and most likely did damage for the 3 weeks I played with the torn ligaments)...saw the hand surgeon today. Said I need an Mri and possible surgery..... MRI scheduled for Friday...

I know it could be worse so I'm trying to be positive but today I'm pretty bummed....

And what you should do UncleHammy is have one of the mods close the Monthly Challenge each month so people can't post late  facepalm.gif. But I have been meaning to contribute something for a long time.

Day Tripper by the Beatles. This is definitely "The Old".  The band that I played in that I posted the picture of played this.  So it really took me back.  The "New" is I have  been trying to learn this for decades (or what seems like).  Started working this in The Song Hits.  Steve, of course, gave me the basics, the riff and the rhythm.  Then I found a couple of sources for the bridge and solo.  The backing track is from Karaoke Version.

It is not where I would like it.  But I came in from the barn, hence the clothes, and recorded it and I'm moving on.  Probably to "Oh, Pretty Woman".

The B chord (going from the C# to the B)  in the chorus didn't ring clearly. I missed at least one note in the solo and towards the end I really got  behind the beat.  But here it is. Warts and all.

Played with the new PRS, into a POD HD500X (with overdrive and a little chorus) into Fender Blues Jr.  The backing track is played on the Boss Eband JS-10.

    wow cool beans!!

thanks for sharing. That guitar is sweet!!

p.s how do you embed the video so it's not just a link like mine?

    thanks
