Thanks Doug. I can see it now that you've explained it. I'm disappointed in myself for not recognizing that at the start.

My question concerns the Heartbreak Hotel song on p. 23 on The Song Hits songbook. The key signature is 4 sharps and the chords are E, A7, B7. The melody has me confused. All the G# and D# are changed to natural G and D. The F and C are always played sharp. So, is the song harmonizing in the key of A while it runs a melody line in D major? How common is this? I've never noticed it on any other song. Of course some songs have key changes within them but this is different. The melody starts and ends in D major and the chords are A major throughout.
