About Me

I started playing and took some lessons in High School.  I did not play very much until my early 30’s, when during our second year in marriage my wife surprised me with a guitar I had put on lay- away.  I was surprised to see it under our Christmas tree on Christmas morning.  It was my first Nice Guitar and is still with me 32 years later.

My playing was still somewhat sporadic... I would play it for a while and put it down for a couple of years at a time.  That all changed around Christmas 2012 when I sensed a strong desire to really get going on playing and developing my skills. As a Christian, I believe that unction came from our Heavenly Father.

I went to our local Guitar Center and asked what would be some good lesson books to help me in my new quest?  They all seemed to point me to YouTube and did not recommend any books at the time.  Not being too computer savvy and not familiar with YouTube I went online and started seeing all kinds of short lessons by a variety of instructors. But it all felt too chopped up and I needed something I could keep coming back to and give me some structure.  Some Paper too...  I know my age is showing...

One night while on the road at my hotel I found an introduction video by a guy named Steve Krenz and a Guitar learning program called Learn and Master GUITAR.  I SAID TO MYSELF...  I like this guy... I like his Spirit and I can tell he has the kind of passion and patience I need to learn.  I believe that too was the leading of our Heavenly Father.

I ordered the course and started watching Steve’s lessons online while traveling and started carrying a travel Guitar to practice.  Here we are ... 6 years later 2018, and my desire to learn and practice is still just as strong.

I have come a lot further along but still a long way away from mastering this instrument.  I am only half way through the Learn and Master lesson book... lesson 10, Fingerstyle Guitar.  I know... it seems like I should be a lot further along after 6 steady years of playing and practicing.  But... I am having fun learning and making music everyday.

Steve... I just want you to know... I am thankful to our Heavenly Father for the unexpected opportunity to work on this project with you.  I am thankful for you and your family and your gift to all of us who want to learn to master this instrument we fondly call the Guitar.  Whether I learn to master it or not... it is a great adventure in learning and the joy of discovering the music that is inside of me to express.

Thank you... and when I went to the last page and read your acknowledgements in the Learn and Master GUITAR lesson book I knew without doubt I had been led to the right instructor and you are a blessing to all of us who have gotten to know you both online and in person.

Steve... I keep that picture of the man you sent digging for diamonds...  on my music stand,  as a reminder to never quit.  I am reminded that many times it is not the destination but the journey that brings the treasures we hope to gain.

Thank You Brother Steve for putting this together for us as we adventure on in life.

Blessings,

Rick
