  1. I am sorry but high quality mp3 is an oxymoron as mp3 is a lossy format. You can, however, mitigate the situation by using software which allows you to chose how many kbps you want the mp3 to have, anywhere from 64 to 320 kbps. 256kbps stereo is probably going to be of high enough quality for home hi-fi systems. If you want to edit the audio at a future date then it would be better to avoid lossy formats and stick with AIFF, WAV (full quality, not compressed) or FLAC (full quality, compressed but not lossy). Audacity is free and up to the job. If you use an Apple computer then Music (previous known as iTunes) is also up to the job.
