Hello, My name is Dave and most of my life I played sports, even a short time in minor league ball. I have always loved blues music and year after year when I would hear beautiful blues music I would think I wish I would just pick up a guitar and learn. At the age of 58 I started trying to play but only slide, it was the movie Crossroads when I heard Ry Cooder playing the Feeling Bad Blues song it was so beautiful I had to learn. My big day was a gentlemen who was in front of me at Safeway was having trouble with his ATM card and mentioned he played guitar and sometimes his fingers were sore or something like that, my ears locked on to what he was saying and after I payed for my groceries I seen him waiting in line at the Starbucks in the store, I got in line behind him and said hi, then mentioned he played guitar and then asked if he played slide and to my surprise he did! He had just moved to Portland and had been a sideman traveling the world but had settled down in Portland. I took lessons and learned finger style for about four months and was hooked. He told me what he was teaching would take years off my learning curve. Anyway sorry for the long winded story, I love the blues and want to just play what I feel, be able to pick the guitar up and play, it’s like therapy for the soul, I now know blues chords can’t play barre chords at all and that’s huge I know, I think I need lessons in blues chord tones, arpeggios, triads, phrasing, dynamics, call & response etc.
