About Me
I started learning guitar from Learn & Master Guitar in 2009. I’ve drifted here and there since then, learned from different guitar instructors and methods, but nothing seemed to stick. I heard Doyle Dykes play one day and I got hooked on wanting to learn fingerstyle guitar. I was fortunate enough to have the winner of the 2015 International Fingerstyle Guitar competition living in the area and he was giving lessons. I arranged to take lessons from him and worked with him for 2-years before he stepped back from giving lessons to pursue other interests. He gave me the name of a gentleman named Dan Bankhurst, and I worked with him for a bit learning Travis picking before money ran tight and I had to quit lessons. Since then I have floundered for a bit trying to pick things up here and there.
I received an email from Steve advertising lessons for Travis-picking, so I checked them out. I ordered the materials and also took a few lessons from him. He made fingerstyle look easy and I got down on myself a bit and lost interest; I figured if I was still struggling after working on fingerstyle guitar since 2016, I was never going to get it.
Recently, I decided that I never really spent that much time on the basics of fingerstyle, I just jumped right into trying to learn songs. Steve had sent me a lesson from his Fingerstyle course when I was taking lessons from him to use for warm-up, and the lessons were great for developing my technique, so I decided to order it and check it out. I’m glad I did! After looking through the book and seeing how Steve has put this together, I have decided to let go of everything I think I know and just give myself to what he is trying to teach in this course.
