I have just build an es style from kit.

now thinking of doing another.  It provided quite an insight into stetting up and personalizing a guitar.

Has anyone else gone this route, thoughts comments.

Great project @Dave ! We' d love to see the finished product! Perhaps you'd like to connect with @Old Guy

who is also building a guitar from a kit which he is documenting on his video blog.

That is a very nice build you have created, Bob. I have been sitting on the fence with regard to a build but now both you and the Old Guy have really made me interested enough to start looking. I see that Solo has a store near the airport (Pearson) so I may need to visit. I would love to find a 1 3/4" neck with a SH mahogany body. The web site seems vague on the pick ups, so I will need more information. Maybe you could help me with that?

I think it is fantastic that you have started this journey at age 71. Never stop learning and improving.

The main reason for the build was to provide myself with the incentive to learn to play the guitar well enough that I would be willing to play in front of someone.   I have been procrastinating for years.  It seems to be working, I am actually putting in some serious practice time.  Still a long from my goal.

Thanks!

It has a very thin flame maple veneer on it and the plan is to use a base of brown to bring out the flame, then carefully sand it back. Once that's done, apply a yellow base and then burst the edges with orange. I paint small wargaming miniatures, so I know how to paint, but have never done anything like this before.

The "paints" I'm using are water based stains/dyes and once the cap is completely dyed, I'm going to seal everything with a few coats of True Oil sanded and polished.

The body will be sealed with Mahogany filler and then a few layers of Tung Oil. I hope to pain just the top of the headstock black and then seal with True Oil as well.

At least, that's the plan, LOL.
