Modes and Creating Fills.jpg

Tuesday February 5th, 2019

7pm Central

Topic: Modes & Creating Fills!

So, what's the deal with modes? Many guitar players wonder if modes, and their exotic names, are the holy grail of guitar knowledge - the thing that separates mortals and guitar gods.

Well, let's look at them.  I'll give you a much simpler way of looking at them than typically used.  Also, I'll show how and when to use them.

Here's a handout for learning modes... Modes An Easier Way.pdf

PLUS, I'll give some helpful exercises on spicing up your fills with slides, hammer-ons and pulloffs.

Watch it live at 7pm Central tonight HERE

Great music, giveaways and more.  See you there!

okay I'm in the Key of G in 3/4

my chords are G,  D, Em , Em, G, G, D, D, Am, C, etc.

I think I have a walk down from G to D by adding the F# and probably E before the D chord.

but what would I use for a walk down from D to Em

Try playing the D chord with an A bass (D/A), then walk down to the Em playing A - G - F# - E.

@Eracer_Team-DougH  As the E is only 1 tone higher than you're going to, you could "Walk up" instead of walk down... D chord,  D, E, F#, Em chord

@Mike Hoodenpyle @NeilES335 actually you don't see the whole song.. plus its 162bpm. and 3/4 time

so the G, D, Em, is the walk down.. to the next G.

I figured out there is no need for another walk down till the end of the verse that goes Em, A, D, D9/C, G, D.

on the D, D9/c, G.. i'm moving my /c finger to the B.. so it walks down from D, C, B before the G.

Hey Steve, Not been able to watch many lessons of late so I was in catch up mode when I went into this one.  I have skated around modes for ages - do I need to know them? - but this was the "bees' knees". Really brilliant.   You made it all so simple to understand plus a pdf......and moreover inspiring. Made me want to get the looper going immediately.  And perhaps even better still play along with my daughter - who was similarly impressed. A great lesson! Steve you were at your very best!!!!  Many thanks.
