heme:  At the Movies

Description:   Main movie themes would be preferred, but you could open it up to any song that's ever been on a movie or TV show soundtrack. 

Deadline: 11:59 PM PST  January 31, 2019

SUBMITTING: To complete the challenge, record an eligible song and reply to this thread with your your direct-linked or embedded track (Soundcloud's great) before the end of the month.

GUITAR REQUIREMENT: You must play at least one real guitar track heard in the mix.

GEAR: All content must be recorded with your home studio equipment. You may use BIAB or loops as long as you play the majority of the song with your real guitar. This is a guitar playing challenge not a sampling/recording challenge so keep that in mind.

TIME: A recording made at any time before the entry deadline counts, but do not enter a recording in more than one challenge.

ONE ENTRY per person or collaboration. But, I doubt anybody will complain if you want to share another on-theme track too.

NEXT THEME: The person to choose next month's theme will be chosen randomly from those who complete this challenge.

I recorded this one with my great-niece (from last year's movie, "The Greatest Showman").  It's not perfect but we had a blast doing it.

Wow Kevin and Isa Great Job! I had not heard that song before and really enjoyed that. Very good mixing job too Kevin. What equipment and DAW did use use?  Guitar playing very good,, error free, and well balanced. (A bit long maybe.)  Hope I can do as well soon.

Neil, my DAW is Presonus Studio One Artist version (a notch below their Professional version). The software was included when I bought the interface a few years ago (Presonus Audiobox USB).

This is my first attempt to submit a song. The song is Blue Bayou from the movie The Man who Fell to Earth with David Bowie. The song was recorded on my iPhone.

"Green Onions" has been used extensively in television, film and advertising, so I am glad that it fits into the challenge for this month.

I tried to mimic the organ by plucking chords. It was a real fun one to learn.

I really liked your interpretation of the song (which is primarily an organ tune... ) and very well recorded too. Was that in 2 tracks?

Henk, this is great! Really consistent strumming and a nice even tempo. I'm always amazed how good the recording quality is on an iPhone too.

Thanks, @NeilES335.

The recording was in 4 tracks: one for the chords, one for a simple bass line, one for the first part of the solo with a little reverb, and a last one for the second part of the solo with lots of reverb.

It was done in two evenings of fun and experimenting.

@Wim VD1 Besides the great playing you've become very good at the recording process too ?. , something I'm just getting into (struggling with ProTools) Mixing /volume levels spot on.   Done in just 2 evenings... im staggered ?  Kindest regards N

@Wim VD1 I think this is your best one yet.  Ingenious use of the guitar to create the organ part.
