Picked up a used 2013 Fender Strat Standard with Fat 50's pick ups and Fender Locking Tuners. This was a case queen and looks brand new with no pick marks, swirls or blems. Always wanted a white Fender Strat. Getting used to the feel and sound. So far, so good! She is a beauty.IMG_1529.thumb.JPG.1c10ea942e01b84c56e31982b8fc2b52.JPG

Popeye, my Strat is a 2012 American Standard with those fat 50`s. A lot of fun. Enjoy yours for a long time.

Nice! Congratulations.

I have a '97 Standard in Olympic White with rosewood board, that now has a hint of yellowing from aging.

Congratulations!  Sometimes you can find really great used guitars.  It looks like you succeeded!

While Im not adverse to buying new, after buying 2 great "pre-owned" guitars last year (Gibson ES137, Epiphone Sheraton) from  a major music store (Long & McQuade) at what I consider bargain prices, I'll be looking there first. So all the better for you Popeye?.

I have also frequented the L & M pre-owned section. A Seagull NE Amber Trail and an S12, along with a PRS SE Santana. Purchased a Fishman LoudBox Mini and other assorted accessories. Good deals and great quality which L&M backs up with a full year of warranty.

My collection is about 50/50 between guitars purchased new and guitars purchased used.  Used is a great way to get a deal on a guitar that would be a budget stretch new.  That said buying used  can be problematic if you have your heart set on a particular color/model or something less common that your standard Fender or Gibson.  Used we will often we have to accept a dent or bruise but that just avoids the heart break of putting the first one in there yourself, and at least a few of my used guitars were dead mint.  Now My No.1 LP which I purchased new has a dent near the pots from my wife accidentally knocking over a mic stand and I noticed the other day, I messed up with tucked in shirt and it has some buckle rash worming on the back as well.  Oh well, I didn't buy them to hang on the wall in pristine condition.  I want my guitars to say "Well loved and Well Played".  (Well Played in this case meaning I did my best and had a great time.)

If I find something used that speaks to me, has no dead frets or other issue requiring more than a basic set up, I'll pounce in a second and not think twice about "new".

@Oldjock Nice purchases! I love the Fishman Loudbox Mini.. looking for one of those.

Ive been very fortunate on the condition of these "used" instruments. My Godin 5th Ave archtop was a chance buy off of Craigslist (the one and only time I ever looked there!); it was mint brand new in the box never played. The other"  2 I mentioned were at the Long and McQuade "Jacks Attic" sale in February. No visible marks etc either. Just a set up and they were good to go. And a warranty too. You might drive better bargain on line but I think this is the best way to go for "pre-owned" . My wife even reminds me; "That great sale is coming up... why dont you wait and see what they have and get another guitar then?" Lining up a 6am actually paid off.
