Great job Wim. You set an inspiring example of where we can go if we are willing to do the work. Year-after-year. I listened to some of your earlier stuff when I went through the site last year. Fine then and now, wow.

Wow! 🙂

I'd certainly agree. I would also have to say Wim is likely our most advanced "graduate student" on this forum at this time, (at least of those that post songs). Wim has an impressive collection of tunes on SoundCloud.

If you're someone who has progressed to this level, we'd love to hear your recordings too.

@Strings, @NeilES335, @pkotof, @Simira,

Thanks for your very kind words.

Learning and playing guitar has become a true passion and learning songs is for me the real goal. It's such a great feeling when after hours and hours of practice, you finally get the feeling to "own" a song.

What I have learned as well over the years is to trust the process. I was not good at playing fingerstyle when I started the fingerstyle course back in december last year, and it looked like a huge mountain to climb. But @Steve Krenz Steve's courses are so well made to gradually and steadily grow your skills. I am now confident that if I do the fingerstyle exercises, e.g. the Giuliani drills, for a couple of weeks, it will affect my playing and enable me to finally tackle those difficult moves in some classic Spanish song, that looked daunting in the beginning.

This trust in the process helps me each time to overcome my initial frustration when learning something new.

So yes, it's about practice, patience and persistence, but these would be useless without a great teacher like Steve with a great method.

Wim.

Neil, really nice work on Sunny, one of my favorite songs from my youth. Your comping skills are impressive, something I hope to achieve someday. A lot of work went into your recording and it was well done

Wim. I have come to believe that here is no genre or style that is beyond your skill set and ability. What a terrific blues rendition, inspirational for a finger flailing novice as myself. Always a treat to hear your stuff.

Thank you very much Greg! "Sunny" is alot of fun to play and really not that hard to play. I'll post the lead sheet in Downloads for you and others. Getting the hang of recording takes a while... hopefully the recordings are getting better as I go.

Nice Randy. Very smooth and cleanly played. Good hand position for your fingerstyle.

This is from Session 10 (the finger style session) of L&M that Steve wrote.  What a lovely melody and such a joy to hear these chords and lines!  It took me a while and many tries of stopping and working on something else, then circling back to it - because the piece is so beautiful -  to get it to this point and I'm so grateful!

Well, since I suggested this month's theme, it is time I finally added my recording. It took me a couple of weeks,  and is probably the hardest recording I have ever done. Again, my mix could be better, and again this song is not good for my lower vocal range and again another song by a woman, but I love Sheryl Crow so I thought this was a good candidate for the theme. All tracks, including keyboard are mine except the bass and drums, which are kaoake tracks for the song. All guitar parts and background vocals as well, are mine. Got it in just in the nick of time.

You're right, Greg!  About time you posted your contribution to your theme!!!!!😉😄  And great job in doing so.  Some really enviable singing and playing on this.  Thanks for sharing it.

Somewhat off the topic of member recordings, and you "love Cheryl Crow" so my guess is you are already aware of this, but her new album is awesome. I'm not a huge fan but there is a song on it, and I can't remember now which one, that my wife really liked.  So I bought her the album, called "Threads".  Every song is a collaboration and it is a very diverse, interesting list of collaborators.  Eric Clapton, Gary Clarke Jr., Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Joe Walsh, Lucius, Brandi Carlisle, just to name a few.  I really like the album.

Thanks again for contributing to the thread.

Thanks Nutty and Matonanjin. I really wanted my 15 year old granddaughter to sing this (she has a beautiful voice when she has the chance to rehearse), but I gave it to her on short notice ( 2 1/2 days), tried recording it at her home in a room that turned out to yield a very boxy sound, and her familiarity of the the song was limited, her volume was subdued and she had some slight pitch flatness on a few notes that I couldn't correct in Logic. The multiple recordings just didn't work out. So yesterday I did my vocals and background vocals to get the song off the DAW and onto the forum. It was fun learning all the separate guitar and keyboard pieces, lots of listening,  relistening, and practicing the parts before recording them...of course recording and rerecording and.....

I may hold off the mass production aspect of recording songs for a bit. I wish I had the skills of other contributors here but making the recording process easier is appealing.

Greg

I forgot about this intro to lesson 10 but now I feel like revisiting it 😀.

@NeilES335 I enter the names of those who have posted a song into an online Random Picker I use this one  Random Picker.

I have just done it for the May Challenge and have sent a message to the winner. The prize is exactly as @Wim VD1 says INSTANT FAME plus............... the winner gets to choose the theme for the next Challenge.

So now we wait to find out what theme will be chosen. Drum roll please 🥁!!

Neil, please post the song even if it does not exactly fit, I am not all that strict really.🎸😁
