Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first amp for my acoustic guitar (and a looper pedal but that's another topic). Anyway, I saw that some people also use portable PA systems like the Bose S1 Pro. Does the acoustic guitar amp have an advantage over a PA system in terms of quality of sound?

The use would be for playing at home and eventually small venues?

I have been using the Fishman Loudbox Mini for my acoustic guitar and have been very pleased with it.

As for your future looper purchase, I have been using the EHX 720. Almost purchased the Ditto but with the EHX720 I can save 10 loops, that swung it for me.

Thanks for the feedback Henk. Always good to hear from someone who has the experience using the product. I see from the link that there is a battery operated version which is kool. Do you think it could be used for playing in a small setting like a restaurant or something like that?

Fishman Loudbox for sure. I have played through my Line 6 PA, even with effects, it does not compare to the Loudbox.  You can use the Fishman also for vocals in a pinch, and I have seen bar performers do it. Yes you can use it in a small gig. I have myself. I own both the battery and Artist models, plenty loud.

I prefer amps over PA.

You may find a good one from this list.

It comes down to budget.  Lots of folks doing acoustic gigs in smaller venues get along fine with a Loudbox or a couple of powered speakers and a small PA mixer.  Those that can afford it will often opt for the Bose.

I'm currently jamming with one guy that worked for Bose so has a couple of sizes of the Bose rig and another that uses a Bose for his acoustic Gigs.  Great sounding units, but pricy, maybe overpriced for many.

If I was doing a "coffee shop gig"

Yes Loudbox mini is way to go.

When I'm playing in church all the acoustic guitars patch directly into the mixer that goes back to the main PA panel
