I was watching  a George Benson video and the interviewer was playing a headless

guitar. I had never seen one before.

Headless guitars have been around for years. I played one (don't remember what brand) years ago, and found it strange and uncomfortable. It felt like my left hand was sliding off the edge of a cliff, because there was no headstock there. I have never played one since. I'm sure it's something you have to get used to.

I've always wondered about these.  I've especially wondered about some of the day to day things such as how does one tune a headstock-less guitar?

My Traveler Guitar is headless. Each string runs over a small wheel (like a pulley) and the tuning system is incorporated into the back of the body. The tuning is very stable.

Interestingly, I had a Gibson style Traveler guitar and it would not stay in tune well. The tuning positions were awkward to adjust as well for me. Did not keep it long.  May be the luck of the draw….

In pre-covid times, I travelled a lot for work. Because of the headless design, this guitar fitted in my suitcase and I hardly made a business trip without it.
