I started guitar years ago off and on and never got far beyond simple open chords.  I’ve always wanted to really learn and I remember seeing this course years ago and just decided to get it. I’m looking forward to learning, but the usual doubt of “can I really do this?” is already creeping in haha.  I’m looking forward to the practice and trusting the process and we’ll see where I am a year or more from now.

Keep us posted on your progress!

I started course in 2014 and keept at it for a couple of months. Reached beginning of session 5 and stopped playing since moving to college.  I had a room for it but didn't want my instrument around wasted students that would suddenly realise they are skilled guitarist when they spot it . ;D I was 19 at the time. I started playing again couple of weeks ago and I plan to stick with the course.

I really took daily practice to heart since I really disregardd that bit when i was younger. I would try to cram 3 hours a day one day a week. I would rush thru the exercises wrong and be sloppy with execution and without paying attention to the accuracy.

I can see difference very clearly when i compare my current progress to one I had in the past.

I guess only downside is my sister complaining i "constantly play the same thing " whe I do my daily routine o session 2.

cheers

I hit the “ready to move on” requirements for session 2 last night.  Planning on starting the session 3 exercises tonight.  Skimmed the material and I know I’ll be here a while.

Steve mentioned getting the Easy Pop Melodies series.  Should I get those at session 3 or would session 4 be better?

You can get it for session 3, the first few songs in it only have notes on the first 4 strings. Then all 6 strings, then they add sharps and flats, which are all covered in session 4.

However the first one (Easy Pop Melodies) is the one you want for now; volumes 2 and 3 (More Easy Pop Melodies and Even More Easy Pop Melodies) are more advanced and they have sharps and flats on the very first song.

Hey there everybody! I’ve been out of the guitar game for awhile, I’m also a big gamer so been heavy on that for about two years since I moved to Sioux Falls. I think I need to jump back into the course though, i may just start all the way at the beginning for a refresher but I believe I made it to section 7 previously. I picked up my 714ce last night for about an hour while sipping some good tequila and man do I miss it. I can’t wait to get home from work so I can start my guitar journey again. I’ve been playing on and off for about 20 years, and of course only as a hobby nothing professional so whenever I start feeling burnt out I move on to another hobby for awhile. I’m back now though! Haha.

@MrStig91  Welcome back! Going back to the start and going through the lessons is a great idea. Chances are you've forgotten some things, or missed some important skills. You're coming up on some critical sections which will involve some study, time and effort. Don't let it deter you! Create a daily practice routine, and stick with it. You'll see excellent results over time. Once Steve recovers from illness, tune into Live Lessons regularly. All the Best; Neil

Welcome back @MrStig91! There are a few of us in the first sessions right now. I agree with Neil, you should start at the beginning and work your way back up. This way you can make sure that you didn't forget anything, and you gradually get those tiny muscles back in the game.

Aim for a minimum of 15 minutes a day, and keep us posted of your progress!

Also welcome @grzyman12!

Evening all .. I just ordered the Learn & Master Guitar course.  Tried learning guitar back in the 60's. My uncle, a skilled musician tried to teach me. He wanted to teach me music, I wanted to be George Harrison. Well that did not work out so well. 🙂  Still remember some of the chords and fingering. Took a 6 week Adult Education class, but once that ended so did my efforts with the guitar. So, as I approach 70 years old, I have committed a year to do my best at learning to play.  Watching Fed Ex to see when the course arrives.

I purchased L&M Guitar series through this site, my order arrived about a week ago, and I'm ready to move to lesson #2 tomorrow.  I was following the Justin Guitar lessons previously. While I'm not a complete beginner, the difference is minimal. This is certainly humbling and exciting at the same time, but I'm enjoying the journey.  I also inhaled one of the books recommended in another post in this forum: The Little Book of Talent, by Daniel Coyle. There is good advice in there on how to practice more effectively.

I noticed others tracking progress in their post signatures here.  How does that work or is it something I just need to manually build and maintain?

Welcome @Jay.A ! Glad you're here. Tracking your progress is a personal thing... Be sure you can easily complete each Session in the workbook an Bonus Resource book before moving on. You'll find plenty of positive help here, so ask away. And tune into Live Lessons most Tuesdays ( when Steve is well again) on You Tube and watch the past ones there.. Happy Tunes; Neil

Welcome @Dolph and @Jay.A! There are quite a few people that started the course lately, I am on session 4 right now.

And @Jay.A I couldn't find anything to automatically show progress in the signature, so it seems like it's done manually. That looks like a good idea!

Yes, @Jay.A and @3PowerChordsAndAnAttitude it is done manually.  First off, @3PowerChordsAndAnAttitude, I love the username!  😎   And, yes, it seems like everyone at some point asks, "How is that done?"   I did.

You just go to your User Profile and incorporate it into your signature.

I hope you guys keep us posted on your progress.  Anytime you have questions, post here!

I started a few years ago and life got in the way. I retired this past Saturday and I am going to take another go at it. Steve is a great teacher.  He sounds like he knows what the mere mortals are going through and makes us feel that it's OK to be a beginner.

So on disc one lesson one .. but going to stay here for a while .. arthritis in the hands makes the fingering exercises challenging .. but getting better every day .. spend a minimum of 20 mins a day. Really want to get all 4 fingers moving. 🙂

@Dolph  Session 1 is to learn the parts of the guitar and to open and close your hand as a unit (arthritis will make this a bit of a challenge) there will be lots of time later to 'master' those two chords.

the 'real' learning starts with the single note reading in Session 2.  this might help you with the arthritis .. so don't stay on Session 1 too long.

I got this course about ten years ago but I had just started learning saxophone and ended up centring on that instrument. Now I'm taking advantage the lockdown to get my money's worth out of this course. I'm really enjoying it and it's filling in a lot of gaps in my knowledge. It's by no means limited to beginners, intermediate players can get a lot out of it as well.
