I read that guitar strings don’t wear out they just get dirty. So, take them off and place the in boiling water for an hour then dry and reinstall.  Anyone use this method?

I've seen that commented before about boiling them

Think about how they're cut off at the tuner

I don't leave alot extra at that end, I'd never be able to rewind them

Also if they kink, at the tuner quite possibly string will snap.

At $7-$20 a pack, you don't need to change them once a month or once ever 30 hrs. 

I don't see a need to re-use strings

I just changed strings and I left them a little long in case I want to boil them later to see what happens. The truth is I like the sound  of old dirty strings better than that. Of new ones.

I assume you are referring to Nylon strings as opposed to steel?    I do recall Steve presenting this topic as an option for Nylon strings in the Fingerstyle course.    But I fall into the same camp as @Eracer_Team-DougH.    I probably don't change strings often enough, but when I do, I just spend the few extra bucks for a new set.    But let us know how it works.
