If you are recording there is a free version of Pro Tools available. Pro Tools First has plenty of capability, and the price is right.

I have tried to download this software a couple of times without success. The file is very large so depending on your download speed it could take a couple of hours...

I've not used a DAW before, but I understand that Pro Tools is basically the industry standard. The "First" ie; free version is supposed to have about 90% of the content of the "Full" version.  We'll see if, when I get it to download...

@NeilES335 The main limitation is the number of tracks you can record so it isn't limited for beginners. Yes the file is large so the download will take a while.

Neil, I'm not in any way making a comparison because I have never downloaded ProTools, much less used it.  It probably is the industry standard.  But if you are looking for a "beginner's" DAW don't overlook Reaper.   for us "bedroom" guitarists it will do everything you could possibly want and there are pages and pages of training videos on their website and all over YouTube. And you can try it for some number of months (I can't remember what that number is 3? 6?) before you have to pay for it.

Pro Tools is pretty easy once you setup the IO and audio interface. You can make a session template and load it each time with your custom settings. It has an awesome synthesizer which you can spend days exploring the amazing sounds. You are limited to 4 audio tracks which is not a limit for guitar players just starting recording. Pro Tools First is not time limited so you can use it for free as long as you want.

@Randy120 and @matonanjin  thanks for your comments and suggestions.  I figured I'll start out with ProToolsFirst, and even though it may be more difficult to learn and more complex than I need, I think I'll avoid having to learn something else first then move to something like this. I also have the option of Ableton Live Lite.  I'll tell you why in another post.

@NeilES335 I started out with Ableton Live Lite, but I never figured it out. I found a version of Pro Tools on sale for a good price which gave me a perpetual license. I upgraded it once when they had a sale. I am probably a couple versions behind at this point, but I have great capabilities to spare. I added a keyboard controller so I could enjoy exploring the built-in synth which is nice to have, but not needed. It makes perfect sense to go with a single product and stick to it so it becomes second nature.

P.S. They show you using the cloud for saves. This is optional. I just save to my local hard drive. There are more videos in this series so check them out.

So then it is safe to assume we will be hearing lots of your great recordings here very soon?

I would also look at Studio One Prime, it is free as well and easy to use.

My 2 cents! :)
