The Summer Challenge has been won by @Eracer_Team-DougH

For the Autumn Challenge, Dough suggested doing something about Changing to Cooler Weather.

He said: "The "jazz" group (like @NeilES335) could do something like Autumn Leaves.. the 'pop' people could do something like California Dream'n (all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey...)etc."

Β

As for the summer challenge, the number of entries allowed per participant is not limited to 1. You may submit as many songs as you like.

We will still draw 1 winner per challenge, who gets to pick the theme for the next challenge. Everyone is free to follow this suggested theme, but you may also submit any song of your own choice.

Β

Looking forward to hearing you play,

Wim.

This one is not really related to the changing weather, so I take the "any other song" option here.

It's another David Hamburger tune from a TrueFire course.

@Plantsman13, following your advice for this recording, I have used the metronome at half speed focusing on the 2 & 4 to maximize groove. Let me know if you notice any differenceΒ πŸ™‚

@Wim VD1Β Β I like what you've done with this song. Β I can hear an improved groove and 'thump' in the baseline. Β If my foot counts, it wanted to move while I played this for my wife. Β She agrees with my assessment as well. Β Keep going, the work effort is definitely paying off. Β Well done! Β My only criticism would be to elevate your attack to get more volume and showcase your confidence. Β

Hi Bryan,

I have found that my attack also depends on the length of the fingernails of my picking hand. Even though I play with flesh, I need enough nail to support it. The nails are now a little longer and the difference is really audible in the melody.

@Wim VD1

William,

I get the nails’ dilemma. Β  I’m an avid gardener and longer nails can be a real pain, so I’m constantly balancing their length. Β
I enjoy your musical posts, so keep them coming. Β D Hamburger is one of my favorite TF instructors. Β
Best,

Bryan

Hey everyone,

Not sure if this "falls" (see what I did there) in with the Autumn theme but let me know what you think. Reached session 6 in L&M and I decided to do Scarborough Fair.

@Nairon

For me, the melancholic nature of your song suits the autumn theme perfectly.

Congrats on reaching session 6. It's great that you combine working on the L&M materials with learning the songs you love.

Well done, I enjoyed listening.

Wim.

For my November recording,Β I combined 2 Chet Atkins inspired tunes (from ActiveMelody) with lead guitar added in the second half.

Thanks @Wim VD1Β Enjoying the L&M journey so far. Long ways to go but loving the content of the course. I recently bought a new acoustic (Takamine GN51CE) so it's a got me extra motivated.

@Wim VD1. I like it. Β Your skills are definitely growing. Β Your bass lines and rhythm are on an upswing. Β My only criticism would be of the sensual nature…Ulysses and the siren’s call is still missing. Β To me, that’s the real deal.Β
But all that aside, that’s one fine piece!

By sensual, I’m thinking heart and soul…

Perhaps Bob Minner’s Solo album epitomizes what I’m trying to conveyΒ

Β

Your fingerstyle playing is some of your best efforts!

Thanks for your feedback Bryan,

I used the metronome at half speed again for this one to improve the groove. I will continue to work on bringing in some more soul in my next recordings.

Today I joined David Hamburger's Fingerstyle 5 (membership costs $20,- per month). The lessons there are song-based, but go beyond just learning songs and also focus on embellishment, improvisation and arranging. I expect to learn a lot there.

I gave Bob Minner's Solo album a listen. His music is nice but a bit too sweet for my taste.

@Wim VD1Β I just rejoined his F5 as well. Β I had taken a few months off over the summer, hope to follow your progress in their forum. Β The improvisation and arranging aspects really challenge my talent level, but I have a feeling you’ll be up for the challenge in no time. Β If you have any technical difficulties, look up Ricky Ramirez in the forum. Β He’s an original member, seems genuine, and will point you toward most anything. Β
I can’t disagree with your assessment of Bob Minner being sweet; but we give it a listen while we prepare dinner and unwind from the day. Β

This is my rendition of the old Blues Standard β€œTrouble In Mind” in an arrangement from D. Hamburger.

Greetings,

Wim.
