Anyone using acrylic nails? Why did you choose acrylic vs gel?  What’s the long term consequences of these nails? When I googled this I walked away with the impression that over time they destroy  your fingernails.

I too have understood acrylic nails can have negative side effects on your existing nails.  My wife just concurred wholeheartedly.  I use the "pink tube" of Vaseline nail conditioner Steve recommended at a  LL; it does seem to reinforce my nails.  This raises the question of how fingertip picks are considered by GG members.  I see the metal and Alaska tips advertised and used by many guitarists.  Any comments?

I thought I was going to get rich by inventing a new design for artificial nails. Then I discovered “Tiptonic” nails. No glue, no more acetone, just lock them on.

Tried most every choice except these. Looking at a video on Tiptonic. Could you elaborate? Do the fingernails have to be very strong and/or how long? Beyond the tips of fingers?

I think it’s best if you go to the menu on their web site and contact them. They also have a FAQ section.

I would assume if you have normal nails they will work. The length of over hang they suggest is 1/16 inch. Each finger can be your own custom length,if you choose.

They seem like a nice alternative to long nails, but the starter kit at $149. US is too much for me.

Finally, after years of starting and stopping the fingerstyle course I have finally included it in my practice routine.

I’ ve tried to groom  my nails without any success. Currently, I am just using “flesh” but in  a few months if I see a future in fingerstyle playing I will try the tiptonic nails.

What I would  really like to do is try out a $10,000 guitar like  the one Steve uses in the course. But, like BB King said in one of his songs, I am a little “light”.

I tried gel nails for only  4 weeks, loved them for playing but they are fragile and require constant repair. I removed them and have problems with those nails ever since cracking vertically before achieving optimal length. This has been an on going problem now for 3 years. Conclusion: stay away from them.

Neither does Laurence Juber. My two favorite fingerstyle players, and neither uses nails. LJ doesn't use a thumb pick, either.
