Gibson Brands announced today the appointment of a new CEO and leadership team. Taking the place of long-standing chief officer Henry Juszkiewicz, James "JC" Curleigh will serve as both CEO and president and comes to the company from the Levi Strauss & Co corporation.

Could this mean a Blue jeans finish Les Paul? (tongue firmly planted in cheek :-)

Good luck to them! I hope the company is thriving again soon. More great instruments is a good thing for everyone.

By shedding the consumer electronics businesses and simplifying their instrument line up for 2019, they should be back on the road to profitability again, provided they focus on quality and what the consumer wants from them ; great instruments!

ps maybe I should have said "great instruments that at least some can afford".

Well said Neil.. also need to revamp the pricing and in line with guitar companies who also make quality products at a more reasonable price dollar for dollar.

I don't know if that will be the case, Neil.  But one question I had was answered in an article in Premier Guitar:

As a musician, I have always treasured my Gibson guitars and I have the utmost respect for the iconic Gibson brand and those who choose to play Gibson guitars,” said Curleigh. “Gibson has been a pioneer of craftsmanship and innovation in musical instruments and has been synonymous with shaping the sounds of generations and genres for more than 100 years. I am very honored to play a leading role with this iconic brand.”

A business man, who is also a musician, is encouraging.

Well I'm on the Gibson forum.

Can't tell you the number of times in just this past year someone gets on posts a long story of how they longed for a "real" Gibson and to purchase the guitar of their dreams, only to have them shattered by QC issues.

The issues?

Many complain about Mark's in the wood ( so tree issues)

One this week has been on a rant that their P90 (aka single coil) guitar hums till they put their hands on the strings

I fail to find that's a QC issue.

Let see what Gibson can do now

Hmm not to get in a debate, but I see many of these issues on the Gibson forums from players  and yes one is a tree issue..: quote  " I ordered my new Les Paul and it finally arrived only to find out, after unpacking it that it had a dark spot in the wood the size of a dime on the flame maple top and the body binding had a big curve in it clearly exposing the paint seam, as if someone came along while the person was applying the binding and bumped their arm.

I can't believe their doing this again it's the mid to late 90's and early 2000's all over again, even the guy's at the guitar store said " Wow I can't believe this was allowed to leave the factory ", and that's their own suppliers talking, luckily I was able to exchange it for another one from the stores distribution center.

Now you might say that I could've got a rare bad egg out of thousands, but this also happened over a month ago when I ordered an ES-335 and it showed up new in box, and it had an indentation in the wood on the neck..
I'm just one person and it happened to me twice in less than two months time.
