My 18 watt Sommatone Slick 18 has plenty of power for a bar gig, in fact, I never turned it past four or five.

I like how they compare Tube vs Solid State to try and cover "misconceptions " of loudness. 

And they are the same

Then the article goes on to say this farther down:

A 50- to 90-watt solid-state amplifier is roughly comparable to a 15- to 20-watt tube amp, making it suitable for small gigs

 

um sure then a tube watt = solid state watt..   that's why they tell you to get triple the power.
