This is my submission for the May Recording Challenge, a cover version of the Beatles hit, "Yesterday". It was my first try at using a DAW with Reaper.Β (yes, I have finally fell into the rabbit hole of the DAW crowd) The recording was made using an Eastman T486 into a Boss ME-80, then direct into a Focusrite 2i2 Scarlett. For a backing track I used an instrumental version by The String Quartet on You Tube.

@OldjockΒ Henk, thank you for your submission and for helping us keep the monthly challenge alive!

Nice melody playing on this beatiful classic song.

So you fell into the Reaper rabbit hole... I assume you are familiar with Keny Gioia's instructional videos by nowΒ πŸ˜€

Thank you for your likes and comments. The thing that I really like about this L & M family is how members from around the world, all on the same journey, help and encourage each other, with their likes and comments, to improve as guitarists.

Wim: After attempting to read the Reaper manual, I was lost. The Kenny Gioia videos are very educational in all aspects of the program. Plus, easy to follow.

Well played Henk! I enjoyed listening...Β  You played every note clearly, and accurately. Now you've done this, my suggestion would be to work on playing more smoothly, so the tune flows through each phrase.Β Β

Bravo on the recording, especially being your your first (or among the first) you've done. I know it's a leap, and learning Reaper is a pretty big challenge, as Wim points out. I've recorded about a dozen songs with it and the Scarlet 2i2 interface, and have only scratched the surface of what it can do. (I dont think you need to know it all to produce a good recording) You imported a nice backing track, and got your sound levels and timing just right, so well done on that too! Your guitar has a nice tone as well.Β  Keep it up!

Hey Everyone,

for this month's challenge, I played Fur Elise from the L&M bonus resource in session 4. I tried to use a strumming pattern in the backing track for most of the songΒ  (down, down-up, down) but to be honest, I'm not really sure how to select a "right" strumming pattern for a song yet. Anyway, let me know what you think.

Well done, Nairon, that sounded good. I would suggest turning down the volume on the backing track so you can highlight the sound of the guitar.

Thanks Wim. Trying to progress past session 4 on the L&M course but this session is a real challenge so far. Very enjoyable though.

For this month's challenge, I went through the Travis Picking Bootcamp lessons that Steve did some months back and learned the old tune "Freight Train". I am posting this quite late in the month, because it took me longer than expected to get it under my fingers and play it at a decent speedΒ :).
