I'm dipping my toes into the fingerstyle waters,  and wanted some ideas for a new classical guitar. Played an AMI classical today, and found it much easier to play than my Martin drs2.  Any suggestions of make and model? Anyone play a Takamine GS-6CE?

Greg,

I tried to play a traditional classical guitar - I actually found the same model that Steve plays - but I could not get used to the wide and non-radiused fretboard. I decided to go with a crossover model - slightly narrower radiused fretboard, and a cutaway. The model I have is a Cervantes (Crossover 1R). I am very happy with it. I am sure there are many other great choices out there. Best wishes in your search!

Dave

If you're looking for an amplified nylon sound, I'd recommend you have a close look at another guitar that Steve K owns; a Godin MultiAc nylon. The are available with the conventional 2" nut or a "slim" version, to make the transition from electric and steel string instruments easier for most players. Excellent quality, well priced.

I'm in the same camp as @David White.    I tried out a few of the pure classical models from Cordoba, but I wasn't really able to find one that had the sound of the feel I was hoping for.    I ended up selecting an Alvarez hybrid model although several manufacturers now offer similar styles with the slightly narrower nut, slightly radiused fretboard, 14 fret neck and a cutaway.    This model has the traditional fan bracing like a pure classical.   I got it specifically to complete the Classical section of the Fingerstyle course and I truly enjoy it.   I'm finding it to be one of my "go to" guitars now.

Taylor also makes nylon string guitars. These guitars are closer to a steel string guitar in design. Nylon string guitars are great for fingerstyle.

Gonna go check out a Yamaha NTX700 crossover on my next shopping trip to Myrtle Beach.   I like the Yamahas.  Sound is pretty good and very playable in my experience.  And the price is right😁.  Don't wanna drop a ton of coin, then let it sit in the corner.  Thanks for the responses!
