Recently I purchased a twelve string guitar. I'm still low tech, so no pics yet. The twelve sounds wonderful and challenges me even more than a six string. This guy sure knows his way around a twelve string.

Thanks for posting this! I really enjoyed watching it. I also have a 12 string, which I just recently pulled out again. I'm waiting for a new set of strings, and looking forward to playing around with it. When I last used it, all I did was strum chords, so I would like to take it to a different level and try some fingerstyle playing.  Enjoy your new guitar!

Hi Alice,

Sorry, been busy. Glad you enjoyed the lesson. I've noticed other top players--Gordon Lightfoot the latest I noticed once again--using twelve strings, which inspires me to keep at it. Some say, "You can't -fill in the blank- with a twelve string," but then someone like Doyle Dikes shows otherwise. Enjoy your exploration!

I found a like new Martin D-X2 12 string on one of the internet selling sites.  I got a good deal, and then ran across Steve's YouTube on Travis Picking. I think they will go good together.

A 12 string has been on my list for a while now.   Since I came of age in the 70's, a lot of my favorite music was done on a 12 string.     Interesting to hear how Doyle Dykes  strings his 12 strings with the top 2 strings reversed, with the lowest bass string on top of the octave string.   This suits his thumbpick style.   I've also heard other players removing the E and A octave strings so they get more bass ringing out.    I tend to like the chimey 12 string sound though.

I met him several years ago.  He was so amazingly generous. It was at a music store and he played a fantastic set and afterwards he said he felt he wanted to give back so he gave all the merchandise he bought out for free. His books his cds etc. It was wild.  I was so impressed.
