Need some advice on amps and pedals.  I had a Fender Mustang I, but didn't like the sound at all.  Sold it to look into a better setup.  Thinking about a Yamaha THR10 to match up to my Yamaha RevStar, but I'm seeking "my guitar family's" thoughts on getting and amp and pedals setup. (Something more versatile than a modeling amp).

The Boss katana  amps would be my first choice . Simple, takes pedal great , has built in pedals, has Clear channel  , crunch channel, lead channel, brown sound, and acoustic channel . low price . Will help down the road after you find the sound your looking for in a better more expense amp. I dont think you can go wrong. if you tried one out at a store. good luck.

The Yamaha Amps are excellent practice amps. To better allow us to guide you what sounds are your favourite, what are your favourite bands and what is your budget?

It would help to know the info as others have said.. You will find a zillion reviews for amps on YouTube. I like Anderton Music UK for their very informative reviews . They have done several comparing home "practice" amps (including the Yamaha THRs and similar. I'd start there, do your research. Or take your guitar with you  to a good musis store, try out several and see which one has the sound features and price you like best.

I have the Yamaha THR5 as my practice amp and it is superb. The THR10 would give you a few options to play around with if you are not ready for pedals yet or unsure of the kind of sounds that you want. The THRs don't take up a lot of space.

Got a VOX AV30 available locally for a really good price.  Looks like a pretty straight-forward amp with some modeling features.  Seems fairly simple for use as a home amp, but has the ability to use in a bigger venue.  Can also add pedals when I get the notion.  May go take a look, and bring my guitar along to check out the compatibility.  Did I mention it was for sale at a really good price?  Hehe.

While you are there check out the Fender Blues  Jr and new Bassbreaker 15. Similar for comparison.

Went to a local store; Guitar Pickers.  Sales guy was awesome!  Showed me around and demoed a Roland Cube 30x.  Price was right (used) and it sounded WAY better than the Mustang I had.  Pulled the trigger and hoping it will give me some new motivation to get going again!

Thanks for all the input folks!

FWIW, the Cube is a great knock-around amp to have around. I have several tube amps, 1 watt to 45 watts, which I play at various times, but the amp I quick grab for my jam classes is the the Cube. I have a 6o watt ( no longer made) and it is a no fuss....plug in, pick a setting and play . It is not really a choice for a performance amp for me but it is very utilitarian , sturdy and can take a beating-throw it in and go. Good choice!
