LOL....  as I'm here wringing my hands over a blemish mark, one of the worlds best guitar players is reaching for a screwdriver to address his finish issues.xD

@Plantsman13 - he does it to enhance the scratching and percussive stuff that are part of many of his tunes.

Soon Maton will come out with a custom Tommy model without finishing on the lower bout (screwdriver marks and all) ...?

I use screwdrivers for screws; not guitars. If it works for Tommy then good for him.

Hey everyone,

I didn't get to read all the great responses to the question; but is it an issue regarding its sheen? from the photo it looks like the arm area is shiny and the rest is more matte.

Hey folks,

My 2 cents... I do believe your arm has polished the flat or matte finish. Or maybe not, either way it sounds like your enjoying the instrument an that's the most important thing. The are flattening agents that can be over-sprayed onto the finish to hide it, but that's likely to be undone after a few weeks of play.

I would forget the finish and play the guitar.

Thanks for all the sound advice.  I’ve been away for too long, looking forward to playing / practicing again.  The Maton sounds fantastic, strung some light Elixirs on a couple nights ago.    Haven’t thought about guitar finish in some time now.  Working on Mr. Bojangles and Hotel California, The Maton sounds great with both.

Henry Ye

That’s just the nature of the satin finish,  it will get polished by your arm and cloth, my maton it’s the same, and my other black satin finish guitar looks way worse, but it does make your one unique as every player has different way of playing would leave different marks on the finish. My opinion is if you want the finish to stay the same you should pick the gloss finish one instead, like the Messiah series.
