Hello All. 👋

The September Recording Challenge Topic comes to us from Fretless and is 🎸 "Solo"🎤

Fretless said "I would call the topic "Solo," by which I mean try playing (and recording) just you playing your guitar with no backing track. That could be an exercise from L&MG, a song you like, a fingerpicked or jazzy masterpiece with a melody embedded, or just a single note exercise or melody. If you wish to sing too, feel free."

This is a challenge that anyone at any stage in their guitar journey can do. So get practicing and recording and join in the fun!😎

1. Randy120 doing a "Grand Pacific Sound Check"

2. Nutty1 playing "Scarborough Fair"

3. Wim VD1 playing "Brothers in Arms"

4. Fretless playing "Ode to Joy"

5. Skip Russel playing "Fly me to the moon"

6. rockinrickard playing "My Girl"

It is awful quiet in here. I thought I would make some noise with my new Taylor Grand Pacific.

  Mistakes are free!

You do love that guitar, don't you? Sounds beautiful to me. Glad you went for it. I feel the same about my acoustic. I have to force myself to look at other acoustics--mainly classical and twelve strings for "someday"---because I feel sated playing mine. I wondered why the sound was muted the other day. Well, first I needed to check my strumming path. Then I noticed the coating worn off the strings over the sound hole. :-)

Here is me having a go at Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair on my Cordoba F7. This arrangement is by Muriel Anderson. I have been learning this on and off for months now, it is far from perfect. It has been a long and hard journey for me but I am really pleased to have got it this far. Do not adjust your sets folks, it is a rough recording in mono. I used one microphone into the Scarlet 2i2.

@Nutty 1 Well done 🙂 Fingerstyle is a real challenge... You're nearly there on this song; just a bit more polish and you've got it down pat. I've seen quite an improvement in your playing too.. N

I remember, nutty1, when you were having a tough time strumming. This rendition, to me, demonstrates spectacular progress. Top marks!

I wanted to learn a solo arrangement of Brothers In Arms ever since I heard this song covered by Yoni Schlesinger in a promotion video for B&G Guitars. I hesitated to record it on acoustic or on electric guitar, but finally decided for acoustic.

It's a great song to learn, with many nice licks and a beautiful chord progression.

Hi @Wim VD1,  Another fab recording, you never cease to amaze me, you really are becoming an accomplished  allround player.  I'm familiar with Yoni, he is one of those jaw dropping players who seem to be able to play all instrument parts at once!  I've noticed that now he also gives tabs and lessons. He only posted himself performing his arrangements before.😊

I recently read a quote from country icon Vince Gill that all he ever sought from music was to be moved by it. Listening to your recording, one of my all time favorite songs, I was truly moved . The song is deeply emotional, provocative and thought provoking to begin with, and you captured and framed all of that essence in a brilliant interpretation. Thank you so much for sharing your music with us. Should you choose to create an album of songs, let me be the first on your list to purchase it.
