Hello All, 

I hope you are keeping as well as you can, if you are on lockdown at home or have any free time please join in with our April Recording Challenge. 

Participants and other listeners are invited to give some supportive and constructive feedback on the submissions because that is how we learn and grow.

🎸Here is how the Challenge works. The challenge is to record a song which fits the subject (although you are free to post any song even if it does not fit the subject). The names of people who post a song that fits the Challenge subject are put into "Random Picker" and the person which the picker chooses will be contacted by me and asked if they would like to pick the topic for the next Challenge. It is not about being the best it is about joining in and getting your playing heard. 🎤

Danny Boy has been performed by many great female artists like Mahalia Jackson, Johan Baez, Judy Garland and Sinead O'Connor, but it is the version of Eva Cassidy, accompanied by acoustic guitar, that is my favorite.

The arrangement I learned over the past weeks is from Steve's L&M Fingerstyle course session 4.

I had 2 new recordings ready, this one and a fingerstyle blues. I just had to figure out which one I could somehow match to the theme of the month 😎.

Hi guys, I hope you and families are all safe and well.  Here is a fingerstyle rendition of 'I Will Always Love You', written and recorded by the fabulous Dolly Parton and also sung by the wonderful Whitney Houston.  This arrangement is from Hal Leonards '100 most Beautiful Songs for Fingerpicking Guitar'. Stay Safe😊  (may sound better through headphones).

Kevin, that's a fantastic rendition of a great song. I listened several times with earphones and your harmonies gave me  goose bumps. Your guitar playing sounds beautiful and the song is very well recorded.

I love Dolly Parton. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was watching the documentary "Here I am" on Netflix where I learned to story behind the song. She wrote it for Porter Wagoner when they broke up professionally and she went solo.

Wondering what equipment you're using.... A DSLR camera with video capability? Looks like you have a Focusrite mic (like I do) Is this running into the interface or the camera?  A you using a DAW?

Hi Neil I am using the Focusrite Scarlet Studio Set, it came with the Mic, 2i2 interface (and a very comfortable set of headphones). The Scarlet Mic goes through a compressor and a Boss Ve2 to the first input on the Scarlet and the guitar goes through my pedal board to the other input on the Scarlet. I am just using the MacBook Camera and recording via Quicktime so it is really easy to trim the start and end of the videos.
