Anyone else finding this session a bit frustrating?

Every exercise has chord forms I've never seen and so they take a long while to get down. I wanted to go through all the exercises and play at a decent pace before moving on but I'm thinking that would take ages (and I'd probably just forget all the chords eventually like I sort of have with session 15).

For reference I'm mainly talking the bonus exercises, like the chord melodys

Sessions 10 to 20 are "tools" for your bag as Steve calls them.

They are not really one after the other like session 1 to 9 are.

So you can step through each lesson above 9,  how much of a "master" of each lesson is your choice

Yes there are a lot of chords for jazz as you are expanding the voicings of chords.

Steve introduced more than 30 shapes in his fret board workout series.

I highly recommend his Jazz work out.

For $25 it's worth the money to work on jazz chords.

@flobbadob  I'm at "about" Session 18 also, and I concur with @Eracer_Team-DougH. I've found that course LMG isnt so "chromatic" in nature at this point, but rather a set of skills to work on. So I venture to other learning tools or resources as well, like Steve's Fretboard Workout Jazz, and Jamie Abersold books, Justin Sandercoe, and Frank Vignolo on Truefire's Jazz Learning Path.

Is anyone else working on S18 (more/less) at this time? If so, how is it going for you?

I finished the course about 6 months ago. Below are some of my thoughts.

First do Steve's course:  "Fretboard Workout Jazz Chords".

Then consider: https://www.amazon.com/Chord-Tone-Soloing-Jazz-Guitar/dp/1910403229/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2HTWWAXES0DI5&keywords=chord+tone+soloing+for+jazz+guitar&qid=1559827888&s=books&sprefix=chord+tone+%2Cstripbooks%2C146&sr=1-1

and, check out this site: https://mattwarnockguitar.com/

Good luck,

Mark

Thsnks Mark, just a quick look at this site reveals a extensive jazz guitar resource, much of it free.

@markmuse And Congratulation on finishing the LMG course! It's no small feat for sure👍🎸

I recently stumbled upon the music and teaching resources of Ted Greene. If you are interested in Jazz, he's worth a look. Ted is no longer with us, but he recorded a superb album called "Solo Guitar" that I really enjoy, and I think his books on chord chemistry and soloing are regarded as classics, and very deep learning material as well.

Well, after being on Session 18 for quite a while, I ran through the exercises etc. a few times recently, and I believe I've completed this Session.

Actually, I've moved on to other areas to focus on learning Jazz Standards songs. (including improvisation, walking bass lines, "comping" etc.)( I'm planning on recording some when they are polished enough...)

It feels pretty good to get this far, even though it's taken me about 6 years or is it 7 (?)... (off and on... mostly off for the past year or so)

My buddy @Eracer_Team-DougH has heard and seen me play several times.... he maintains that I've  finished the LMG course really...

I've worked my way through all the sessions and completed them.. (ok, confession time; I never quite "got" Pacabell's Canon in "D" very well.. another time. 😉  maybe an excuse to buy a nylon string guitar!)

I also completed all of the Fretboard Workout Series of lessons... (which are great... you should too if you haven't )

Soloing is most of Session 19 and I'm reasonably good at playing a melody "by ear" as well as basic improvising. Session 20 is some more chord knowledge, most of what I know already... so,

With no real "final exam" it's up to the individual to decide... Can I play everything perfectly? Well, honestly not perfectly... (and surely not as well as our friend  @Wim VD1 ) But I do feel the need for something new.

I know I'll be referring back to the LMG course often for review, but I think I'll basically give myself permission to consider the course "Completed"

In some ways, it feels like the beginning... there's still so much to learn!

Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement!   (I'll still be around!)

Regards; Neil

@NeilES335

Congratulations on finishing the course, Neil! That's a major achievement.

There is indeed still so much more to learn, but the  foundations that you built by completing L&M are rock solid and you have all the skills now to really enjoy the instrument and be a musician.

I look forward to listen to your recordings!

Also, I want to take the opportunity to thank you for what you are doing for our guitar family here on this forum, sharing your knowledge and supporting all of us with valuable feedback and comments.

Wim.

@Wim VD1  Thank you very much Wim! You're very kind of you to say...

It's been a pleasure seeing & hearig you and others develop into musicians. (I still have a way to go to catch up to you...;-)

As you say, I really do enjoy playing now more than ever,  always with the challenge of improving, or learning that new technique or song.

I haven't recorded anything for almost a year now, so I hope to, as soon as my business settles down over the Christmas/NewYears period. I'll have to go back and figure out how to use the DAW again! and produce a decent recording!

It's been my priveledge to provide support here on the Forum and Live Lessons as a small token of my appreciation for what I've received from  Steve K. and the GG family.

Kindest Regards;

Neil
