not many post in the Learn and Master Guitar Segment of Guitar Gathering forum, and anything above Session 7 (and even more so above Session 10) it starts to get really lonely in the higher sessions.

Although Tommy Cash just responded to the Fretboard Series on the Money Chords workout that it goes along with LMG Advanced Strumming lessons

Taking a peak at this Session...

Apparently I am one on the "small number of people" (as Steve K puts it) that can hear a rythym and just play it. (no boast intended)

I do actually find it harder to slow it down and count the "down , down, up, down, up" etc strokes than just play what i hear in full tempo.

It will be interesting to go through the exercises and see if this is so or if perhaps I'm deluding myself and sound terrible after all! (hope not?)

Just taking a look at "Money Chords" I'd agree ... "Advanced Strumming" should make those chords very professional sounding.

I'm not sure who it was.  Maybe it was in some movie?  But he said (something to the effect) "If it's the truth it's not boast".  I'm coming to the realization that I struggle more with rhythm and strumming than anything.  I'm working a "Licks" course and S14 bending and hammers ons and pull offs, etc., and moving right along. But I can't remember a strumming pattern to save my life.   That I need to work some more "ancillary" rhythm courses is becoming increasingly obvious.

Maybe if you ""actively" listen to the song rhythm, I mean really focus, close your eyes and visualize on it, it will become more natural. In S16 Steve emphasizes once you have the basic strumming pattern, to look away from the music and play whats in your head.  It's like when I;m noodling a song, I dont really know what fret comes next but I'm playing the song in my head and the melody just comes out. Perfectly...no, but pretty close. The funny thing is a scale of some sort usually appears. Rhythm is the same thing.. and playing it a lot.

Steve uses many "non-standard " strumming patterns that are pretty hard rhythmically.

You'll have to decide when you've "captured " rhythm

A new month, a new session. "Officially" starting S16 today

I've been through the exercises once already which went quite smoothly. Will need a couple of more goes at it and playalongs.

Without any worksheets in this session I'll review past theory and continue with Arpeggio  study.

Given the fact I am a huge Will rogers fan, I'm dissapointed I didn't know he is credited for this!

Found a great song to play that fits right in with " Advanced Strumming" while browsing YT .  "Don"t Dream It's Over" by Crowded House.  I really liked this song but wasnt really into music as much on the "80s" . Now its fun to find out I can actually learn and play it ??. Not really hard... any intermediate player should be able to handle it. Check it out.

ps Kinda stalled on S16 for the moment... A detour into "The Money Chords"  ( and then theres always the arpeggios to finish.. got 4/7)

Well, after about a month on S16, I;ve been through the lesson and the bonus material several times, and played along with the jam tracks in time... I even recorded them (for myself during practice) and  thought they sounded pretty good. (My wife wanted to know if that was really me playing or the recording... :-)

I've always enjoyed playing rhythm, and making up my own patterns, or mimicking a song from the recording.  Some of the lessons were challenging but not overly so, for me anyway.

So, I think I've met the criteria for completion.... Moving on to Session 17!

ps As usual I've been working ahead. S17 is one of those "mega lessons" that I expect I'll be on for a while. I'm still working on memorizing arpeggios as well. It's good to go back and review sometimes too. I'm also thinking about recording, which is another thing which paradoxically seems a separate yet related hobby. This would take up some more learning time (especially learning a DAW). Always something new to learn...

Moving on up, to the 17 side,

They say rhythm is 90% of the song, but solos are way cooler.

In pro musician circles I believe the guitarists that are always in demand and with the steady paychecks are the good ryhthm players.?

@NeilES335, Congrats on finishing 16 and moving to 17!

I found the 3 notes on a string exercises from Session 17 to be complementary to the major scales fredboard workouts and kept them in my practice routine for many months while also working on other lessons in parallel.

You're getting close to L&M graduation. ?

Wim.

Thanks for the tip Wim and your encouragement!

I dived into S17 for a couple of hours last night, and found I knew the First  3NOAS  (note on a string) pattern already, so that's at least 1 out of 7 :-)   But hammer on and pull offs as Steve demonstrated at 120 PLUS BPM... Wow that's moving! THAT will take a while....  And Steve looks like he can do it asleep! It took a man with his talent 3 months to get it all "down", practicing it every day.

And like I've said, I often feel like I should review sometimes, or spend more time on songs... and there's the recording thing... S18 is also calling me.  Way back when I started (maybe like 7 or was it 8 yrs ago .. huh?!) I couldn't even imagine being able to play that, and yet I can play at least half of that lesson now...

Close to graduation? I guess that's true.  But then again, does anyone ever really graduate from learning music and guitar? It seems as always... (my favorite phrase) "The more I know, the less I know".

In a lot of circles, Roy Clark never really received the credit he is due as a guitar player. Maybe it was because he was on Hee Haw and it was a musical comedy and people did not take him as seriously? I do not know!

Watch this video to see left and right hand, picking, strumming, rhythm.......etc...etc....etc..

Hello all!  Finishing up 15 in the next couple days.  I loved the power chords.  Lots of fun and reminded me of my misspent youth😉  But it is time to move on to some Advanced Strumming.  I'll meet you all here, probably this week-end.

Who else is here?  @NeilES335

To make sure I understand.  The entire course?  All 20 sessions?!?!?!  If so, I missed that.
