Yeah, Neil. I'm here with you. You will find this session a fun one. The patterns with the added blues note is just rote memorization. But the "Jammin the Blues" at the end is a really fun song. Getting the timing on it was challenging. I think it was @Triple-o that said "Johny' s E Blues" took him a while. I haven't started it yet.

I haven't started it yet because I've sidestepped for a little bit. I've been learning songs for my weekly jam sessions. This takes most of my practice schedule. I'm also working a Truefire blues licks course that complements S13 nicely.

I think I have also mentioned elsewhere that Guitar Techniques magazine's had an article/lesson on the Blues scale that I was working concurrently. When I get back to 13, which should be soon, I will go back to it as well. (If you want more info on that article, let me know).

But you are likely to pass me here. Keep me posted on your progress.

Congrats! Unfortunately, I'm still working the demonic Pentatonic Sess 11! Can't wait to get to the Blues. Congrats again and will post when I get there.

Demonic Pentatonic Session 11?!?! :oxD. I've heard the barre chord sessions and session 4 called similar names but never session 11!

Doing pretty well with S13 so far. Taking a bit longer than expected with some distractions..

Penta Blues Scales: check

Jamin the blues; check

Johnny E Blues; check

Triad worksheets ; running about 80% when filled in as fast as i can write...shooting for 100%

S14 not too far off?.

@NeilES335, you and I are neck & neck.  OK, a slight edge to you.  I've got all the check marks except "Johnny E Blues".  I'm 96.43% finished with "Jamin" and will start "Johnny E" this week.    I also had some distractions (medical, musical and domestic) but am getting back to S13, as I said, this week.  Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress.

Ok, so after several study sessions with the Triad worksheets (writing them out about a dozen times ) I managed to get 100% several times ... so, I think I can consider that " a wrap " for Session 13 ... Moving on to S14??

PS. In case any of you are wondering... As Steve says, you MUST know how to spell your major scales Very well or there is no way to honestly get past this point.  I'm certainly not an expert  like Steve,  but thankfully i invested the study time earlier. I'm sure that regular review and practice on this is needed until its like  tying your shoelaces?

pps Also studying Jamie Aubersold Jazz 1 introduction to jazz  improvisation.  If i had not done the  theory groundwork from the LMG course to date,  this course would be  all "Greek to me..." but so far its a fun excersise  with great play along tracks?

Congrats on finishing S13.  We are no longer "neck and neck"?   I just started "Johnny's E Blues" so I will be here sometime yet.  I hope not much more than a week.  See you in S14 soon.  Don't wait for me!

You're too kind my friend...  Thank you. One thing I learned is (as @Steve Krenz has stated many times) you have to crawl before you can walk, lest you stumble.  Moving ahead in playing skill is great and a lot more fun, but I found without the theoretical knowledge there will be gaps in your ability. You just have to  trust that the practical application  of this newfound knowledge will present itself when needed.  "Oh...I know that!" ??

Why haven't I learned by now not to make predictions about how long it will it take to finish some course material?  Am I completely incorrigible?  I got to Johnny E Blues and I don't know why I am struggling so badly with that V -> IV -> I rhythm.  If I loop just it and go through it a few times,  I got it!  But then I go back to then entire song and get to that part and the turnaround and the wheels fall off!   How did people learn guitar not being able to loop a section?  ?  did Clapton and SRV use Guitar Pro 6??

@NeilES335, @Triple-o, did that section in particular  challenge you guys?

I have Johhny E Blues slow Version about done (at 92%).  I'm pretty sure I hope to get the fast version finished in the next couple days.  Sheez, there I go again!  predicting!

@NeilES335, don't leave the light on.

Well Ron.. @matonanjin to answer  your question , no I didnt find  Johnnys E Blues particularly difficult...but then again I've played the "shuffle" 1-4-5 many times before for years. You"ll get it soon enough, then you can start experimenting with fills and licks interspersed with the melody, or play it in other keys like A.

I'll leave a candle in the window...?

Neil, this is why it  was somewhat bothersome.   I have also been working blues materials, including the "shuffle" from some complementary sources.  I haven't been working it for years, as you, but long enough that it shoudn't have presented as much of a challenge as it did.  As I said, it was that shuffle over the V chord and then to the IV.  But I moved up to the "fast" version today and am very close.  It was fun.  I'll be there soon.

You're right in that when you play the "fast " version along with the jam track, you have to be "on" ...and  paying attention to get it absolutely on the beat and not flub anything... you'll do it I'm sure.

(playing along with the track is certainly less forgiving)

Finishing up "Johnny E Blues" today.  I'm going to go through it a few more times then moving on.  A few days ago I tried it with a little palm muting and I think it sounded a little better than letting the open strings ring.  But doing that introduced one more challenge!   But I'm working that a little more and then it's behind me.
