Well after about 3 weeks of working on Session 12 Advanced Chords, I believe I've met the criteria for "moving on".

After hearing me  playing along with the backing tracks my wife says I "passed the exam" so that good enough for me ?.

I enjoyed learning some new colourful sounding chord shapes which I will certainly incorpoate into my playing. No more boring chords! The 2 chords, major7 , and m11 are very rich full sounds that will really set your sound appart from what almost everyone else plays.

Even if you're not at this level I suggest you take a look and give it a go. Personally I didnt find this Session overly difficult and quite fun.

Onto S13 Playing the Blues ..?

Look forward to seeing you here with me in S13, @NeilES335.  I'm with you.  S12 was largely memorizing new chord forms.  But a lot of fun.  So is 13.  The two blues songs at the end of 13 are fun.

Congrats on moving forward.

@matonanjin I believe Neil is closer to Session 17.

I'm glad Neil has taken my prodding to complete LMG.

I believe he could be finished before end of year.

Hi all, I am having issues with my ring finger and pinky when trying the moveable G2 chord.  I wanted to ask if there’s anything to recommend to get my fingers to stretch accordingly. This is the first chord up to this point inLMG where my fingers are just not that flexible. Any exercises or other tips...thanks for reading 🎸🎼🎸

If you search this site and LIve Lessons you'll find an exercise called the "Phil Keaggy" Stretching Exercise.  That'll work...

Hi Neil, my search came up with a stretching exercise for Chris shapes by Steve and  don’t think it was the one you were referring. If you have the link or copy of the exercise would be great...thanks for your feedback...🎼🎸🎼

Chris - I don't have a diagram of the exercise but below is (hopefully) a clear explanation:

Start with your index finger on the high E string 10th fret, middle finger on the B string 11th fret, ring finger on the G string 12th fret, and your little finger on the D string 13th fret. Make sure each string rings out clearly (and at each step along the way).

Move your index finger up two frets (it will now be on the eighth fret of the high E string); move your middle finger up one fret (10th fret on the B string); move your ring finger up on fret (11th fret on the G string); move your little finger up one fret (12 fret of the D string); and finally move your index finger down one fret (9th fret of the high E string). Each finger will have moved up one fret on the guitar neck.

Repeat this process all the way up the neck until you run out of frets. You may not be able to make it all the way up the neck at first. It is best to do this exercise somewhat quickly or your hand will start to cramp up. If you feel any pain, give it a rest and try again tomorrow. Eventually, you will be able to make it all the way up the neck.

One last tip - it helps to hold the neck of the guitar in an almost vertical position while doing this exercise.

Good luck!

Thanks Neil and Diane for your comments. I will keep working on these exercises and will keep you posted on my progress. Hope this will also get my pinky to stretch away from my thumb as it always seems to go inward....at my tender age of 61... I figure may just take bit more time to get more flexibility...🎸🎼🎸 Thanks Chris

Hello All!

It looks like there hasn't been much activity in this thread for a few years, hopefully this post gets seen.

I have been working through the L&M book for almost 2 years now and am loving it! After spending about 3 months on a Travis Picking tangent (Freight Train is finally under my fingers!! haha)  I am a few practice sessions into Lesson 12 Advanced chords and have my work cut out for me.

My question is this: Does anyone have some recommended songs that incorporate some of the chord forms/progressions covered in this lesson? I've come to a point in my learning where the skills development and technique portion of my practice is more difficult to sync up with the song learning portion.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
