Like many of you, I've jumped around a bit. Bit of S11, bit of S13, bit if S15

Playing in choir past 4yrs has made session 9 kind of boring. Except those single notes with the Jam CDs on fast

Although I know Session 10 can and is a rabbit hole, I'm going to start to squeeze in S10 in between Choir songs, and other songs I'm trying to learn.

Now if only caffeine or Red Blue would keep me awake longer each day

S10 update, with only 2 kids in a children's choir last year the choir director said.. that's all folks. no choir,, So now I've been working on LMG stuff again after really 4yrs detour with choir.

so all summer I've been working Song Hits (Day Tripping and Pretty Woman need to smooth out to record), week ago I started S10 in Ernst.

so all 3 finger patterns at 92 bpm.. peace of cake..

Travis picking.. hmm.. work in progress, not sure bpm maybe 72,, guessing but it needs to be a lot faster than that, but I now have thumb picks in my studio, car and van.. so when time comes... break a thumb.

Giuliani Study's .. going to have metronome it.. bet I'm well past 60bpm recommendation..

that leave's House of Rising Sun.. pretty easy.. been playing it for years.. should break out the jam cd and find out how wrong I am on this comment.

Etude in D and Cannon in D.. although not 'hard' chords.. the speed in which they're played will be my stumbling block for a while... We'll see how long I stay here before bailing to Session 11.

Way to go Doug... with renewed focus you'll make more headway that you have in a while. It will feel good to see those sessions truely complete.

Working S10 "bonus" tonight

No issues with Steve's finger patterns,  but you find out how bad your barre chords sound this way. ?

One of the things you find out is that with fingerstyle you often dont need to fret the whole barre chord, just the chord tones.

I can't wait to get to this session! However, I'm starting over so it'll be a while.

For inspiration, I've always thought the actress Charo had impeccable technique as a guitar player.

People made fun of her as an actress, but as a guitar player she was awesome!

Who would have thought... yes her technique is excellent! And the jewelry didnt even get in the way ?

Starting session 10 today... All i did was playing finger style (alternating bass deltablues...) before i started this learn and master course so i don't expect a lot of troubles in this session. I started the Learn and Master Fingerstyle course a few weeks ago and i am ready to move on to session 2 in that course.

I don't know about you folks but i don't really like the plectrum... Just for improvisation stuff maybe and soloing but i play with  it because i wanna follow the L&M course and a I think that every guitar player should have a good basic with the plectrum too. What i reaaaaly like is plucking the strings :)

When i finish the L&M course i will follow the blues course but i think i will always prefer finger style on acoustic.

Just getting into session 10 and certainly finding it a bit challenging. With practice it will come eventually. Wanted to check if finger style pattern for House of Rising Sun is Thumb-1-2-3? Thanks and keep on strummin’🎸

@ChrisJ032 Yes, Chris, it's in 3/4, so we might better say: T-1-2-3-2-1 (p-i-m-a-m-i).

Hold over from those classical people

Name of the fingers in Spanish: pulgar, indice, medio, and anular.

P=Thumb

I= Index

M=middle

A= ring

After pretty much skipping fingersyle, I am getting back into it.  I am looking for resources for practice drills.  At this time trying to learn songs is very frustrating so I am looking for excercises to train muscle memory.

Hello Scott @Mouseslave, Steve has done a Fingerstyle course under the Learn & Master label. That has loads of exercises in it, it is a very comprehensive skill building course.

Thanks Nutty

@Mouseslave if you're looking at getting BIG time into finger style and leave the main LMG behind  then yes grab Steve's Finger style course.

You you just want some more than found in S10 and S10 Bonus before moving on to S11.

Then probably the Finger Style course is too much.

Steve does 3 main patterns.

T, 1,2,3

T,3,2,1

T,2,1,3

Just use all those songs from S1 to S9 that you had to slug through and finger pick them

Btw you can "Merle Travis " them too if you want more finger style practice

Fingerstyle has certainly helped cleaning my barre chords. I wanted to ask on bonus resource session 10 intro, second measure D2/C#, does 4 represent the ring finger?

thanks for your help

@ChrisJ032 Chris, if you're looking at page 96, that 4 means the C# (root) on the 4th fret of the fifth string. All of those numbers in the tablature are fret positions.

@ChrisJ032 Chris, I'm not sure what you mean by "Dm alt form" in this context (D major with 2-3-4?). As Steve explains on the next page, from the D2/C# (= Asus4/C# here) you can hold that second string D with your third finger, let the open E ring, and reach for the fifth string C# with your pinky.
