Needed a stand...   decided to just make one,  added a Dunlop pick holder to the back, an area big enough to stand my metronome, and a magnetic clip that allows it to act somewhat as a music stand.

Love it!  Seems that DIY/woodworking is a fairly common theme on here.

wow, Dave that is one the best DIY stand  I have seen. I have made rudimentary ones along amp stands, etc. Can we get a picture without the things on it. I would like to see the top clearer. well done

I used “closed cell foam” (aka weather strip) to cover the areas that the guitar contacts the stand. I Mounted the Dunlop pick holder on the top by cutting slots in the top for it to slide onto.  Used some scrap metal for the kneck support front and mounted another piece under the back of the head to accommodate the magnetic clip I am using to hold a sheet of music.   It was all cut from one 36 inch by 12 inch 3/4 inch piece of pine.  My original sketch was used as a guide....

Now if I could only play the guitar as well as it looks sitting on its stand...  ;-)

Very nice Dave. I always prefer to see wood grain rather than painted metal. For me it adds "warmth" to the room.

That looks great, well done. I like the wood instead of metal as well. :)

Hi Dave,  great project.  I need to do the same thing.  One note though.  I saw that you used closed cell foam for the contact areas.  This type of foam is known to cause color changes on nitrocellulose finishes and can make some lacquers soften and peel off so you might want to check that out before leaving a $4K Les Paul or 335 on it.  George

Dave, I was looking myself for a material safe for all finishes, but haven't had any luck.  Maybe Greg Voros at Gruhn Guitar's can give us some suggestions since he repairs vintage finishes.  I have read that some people cover their foam with a soft cloth that has no chemicals in it.  If you do a search on "Damage to guitar finishes from foam or rubber" you will see what I mean.

Very awesome!

That is the first stand of that type I've ever seen (I don't get to town much)!

I'm going to add the Dave style stand to my project list.

Really elegant, thanks for sharing it.
