Over the years (mostly on the old "Learn and Master Guitar" discussion board) , there has been some discussion about a "Canadian Members Forum" , where members North of the "49th Parallel" could share information of particular interest locally, and possibly connect more easily.  (Not that we have anything against our southern cousins mind you...:D)

I've noticed that we have many more Canadian (and ex -pat's ) members  on this site than our previous home, especially in Southern Ontario, Great Lakes region where there must be at least 15.

Who knows where this could lead?  Maybe a Guitar Gathering North? Local Jam Groups? Group concert dates? A visit from our teacher and mentor Steve Krenz?   (Many of us may never make it to Nashville (the cost, time, distance etc. but wouldn't mind an hour or two's drive...)

If you're a proud Canadian, a positive, supportive guitar student/player/performer. and your interested in connecting with more local like minded enthusiasts , why not go ahead and chime in, introduce yourself and connect. ( I'm aware there is a Member Map)

Why not click on the 'FOLLOWING" TAB top right, and see how this progresses.

If you folks think this is a good idea, then great...(if not, well, nothing ventured nothing gained...)

I'm from Caledon Ontario, northwest of Toronto, (just north of City of Brampton, really).

I'm in Brampton..  Ontario (just northwest of Toronto)

about 10min away from Neil

I know that there are a number of members in or near Hamilton.. and one in St Catherine's plus someone near Listowel; besides GTA

we've batted a few time around a Toronto-GTA Jam with Ron , you and I.. but I think if we 'rally the troups' we could possibly get a Sunday jam in sometime for a Southern Ontario Gathering

Not a Canadian myself, but I spend a lot of time in Winnipeg around holidays. Hope you guys up in the True North can facilitate a guitar get-together, or maybe we'll see some of you in Nashville :)

I'm in Grimsby, which I like to say, "..is the nerve centre of the Niagara Peninsula". This is a great idea and do you think this could be combined with craft beer tasting?

@NeilES335 I like the idea of the regional sub-forum. Have you discussed it with Steve yet?

This was not intended to be an "exclusive " forum but rather one with a more local focus. If /when any gatherings, jams, etc. materialize, I'm sure any member, from wherever, would be welcome.

Perhaps there could just be a folder called Regional Forums, in which there would be a Guitar Gathering - Canada, Guitar Gathering - Upper Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, West Coast, etc etc. That might help people find local folks to play with.

Just a thought....   For us Canadian Dwellers...

I have bought a couple of items from "Steve's Store".   There have been other times where I would have liked too but the shipping costs just puts it way out of range...

I am also a tennis player and members of our club will from time to time put in a joint order from US Vendors thereby splitting shipping costs.   Works well for us because we all regularly meet in person at the club.  Was just wondering if something like that might work here.

Most Canucks here seem to be in Ontario! I am in Montreal.

I usually go to Ontario a few times per year during the summer to see CFL games, but the Montreal team has been going from bad to worse lately so I'm not sure if I'll do it this year.

Combined shipping.

Dave it only works if the person heading across the border doesnt do a couple of things.

1 charge you a part of the gas/tolls etc fees.

2 stays long enough over there so when they claim the material its duty free.

Did this once with someone. By the time the gas and declared duty was added up. It would have been faster (and cheaper) just to ship to my house here

I was not thinking of going across the border I was just thinking of splitting shipping costs.

It would not work as well as it does for us at the tennis club where we have the advantage of getting together on a regular basis.

as an example, we placed a joint order with tennis warehouse.  If I had placed an order for just what I wanted, shipping was going to be $60.  A joint order between 4 of us ended up costing $80. My share at $20 netted me a saving of $40.   A couple of us wanted the same product so we scooped a quantity discount that netted me another $10.   So I ended up saving $50.
