Hello folks,

Does anyone have experience with the Martin Drs1?

Is it a good overall acoustic?

I want to upgrade from the guitar that i have now (Tanglewood TW45 DLX) and i think the Drs1 will be my next guitar, i am saving the money for it for the moment so if anybody have played that guitar, let me know what you think about it please :)

Any other tips or recommendations are more then welcome. I want to buy a good acoustic overall guitar for around 1000 Euros to follow the whole learn and master course with...

Thanks and greetings from Belgium

I've owned a DRS2 for about 2 1/2 years now.  Don't know what the difference is, but I love mine!  Nice deep bass tone that I like.  Not bright like a Taylor.  Has Fishman electronics I believe, but I rarely plug it in.  Just put some Martin lifespan strings on it.   Think I like the Martin strings better that the Elixers I've been using.  BTW they are made in Mexico.  I call it my "Mexi-Martin".   No quality flaws that I've noticed though.  Happy with it!

Its been a while since I was shopping to upgrade my acoustic, but when I was the DRS2 was one of the guitars I seriously considered.  In general, in and my opinion, Martins tend to be less "bright" and more "full", or "rounder", or "woodier" or "earthier" or however you like to describe it, compared to Taylors.  That said, the DRS1 was was tad too far in that direction for my preferences, and I preferred the spruce topped DRS2 to the all mahogany -1.

I will say with an acoustic, its best to play a bunch of them, including those well over your price point to hone in on what is most pleasing to your ear and meets your budget.

Don't know a bout that martin guitar. But I have two and they are nice guitars. If you are planning to finger pick you need a guitar with a wider neck. It make a world of difference. the one you chose has a 1 11/16 neck. You need one with a 1 3/4 neck.  If you don't fingerpick it will serve you well. Best thing to do is try different ones to you fine the one. Good luck.

I see Guitar center had it listed wrong Sweetwater has it listed as a 1 3/4 nut you good. I have a DC Aura GT, and a DX1RAE. The Dc is 1 3/4 nut and the DX is 1 11/16 nut. .The DC great for finger picking and strumming . the DX just pick picking and strumming. Good Luck.

Check out a Seagull too.  Nice guitar, sounds great, and the price is right. Think it's the S6?  Almost got it vs the Martin, but I had to have that Martin name:-)

greg Mills, i know what you mean :)

I have played the s6 once and that was truly a wonderfull guitar, it was so easy to play...but there was only a little bass compared to other guitars.

but when i will start fingerpicking i seriously consider buying a seagull folk with soldid wood (SWS series) or a artist mosaic folk if my wallet allows me to :)

greetings
