Hi,

For those of you who purchased the learn and master song hits, What does this really teach?  Description is simply it teaches the songs, but that can mean a lot of things.  I am looking to learn instrumentals for the guitar, not vocals.  Trying to decide if this is what I want or not.

Thank you

It teaches you to play the songs using the material you are learning in the LMG course. What good is an instrument and learning to play it, unless you play music (songs)!

Steve tried to give a wide range of songs to compliment his guitar course.

Not all songs in it may be to your liking but they do create a skill level challenge in each matching session.

Only exemption was Hit Me with Your Best Shot and You Got It.

They both couldn't be put in their proper sessions due to copywrite issues

SP,

It doesn't sound like this might be the best fir for what you are describing.

We developed the Song Hits course to give those going through the Learn & Master course extra tunes to work on while they are acquiring the skills.

They come with Jam Tracks and weren't really designed to be a book of solo guitar songs.

What styles are you interested in?

- Steve

Hi Steve,

First, thanks to everyone for their response to my questions.

I am working my way through the Learn and Master course, and have been for the past 12 months or so. I'm on lesson 9. I am not a fast learner by any means, but I'm in no hurry either.  I play/practice every day, its a great hobby and relaxes me after work.  By the way, thanks for a great course!  While I may never master the guitar, I am having a blast trying to.  I was looking for something to supplement that course with actual songs, but didn't want a book that simply taught strumming to accompany vocals with a few licks thrown in.  Instrumentals is what we called them when I was young, but then we didn't have tabs either.

I primarily flat pick fiddle tunes, and I like old timey/mountain music AKA Doc Watson, but I like most guitar music except metal (never got into hard rock). I've worked my way through the first two volumes of flatpick.com's essentials course and I'm working on volume three.  I go back and forth between the two courses.  I like pop/rock & roll from the 50s, 60s and early 70s both acoustic and electric.  I'm not sure of any music I don't like except for hard rock/metal and I even like some of that.

Thank you for responding, and please let me know if you think the pop songs or even the rock songs would be good.

sp_450, just to make sure we are answering your question(s) before letting this go.  I'm not sure about pop songs or rock songs because I don't have those.  But, as Doug and Mike said above, the Song Hits does a great job of compleenting your progress in L&MG.

And "The Song Hits" does have at least a couple instrumentals.  If you look at the Table of Contents "Baby Elephant Walk" in session 13 and "Mission Impossible Theme" in session 14 are instrumentals.

The rest of the songs are vocals.  But there are no vocals!  In every lesson one plays, Steve teaches, the melody/vocal part as an instrumental.  You learn to play the vocal on guitar.

This is a terrible job of my playing "Heartbreak Hotel" from session 5.  (Hopefully I've progressed since then!).  With each song Steve teaches the rhythm and then, as I said, the vocal as lead guitar.   What I did was just that.  I recorded the rhythm part over the backing track.  Then I went back and recorded a track as the lead guitar/melody.

So, no, it's not the same as an instrumental, but close?

I hope this helps.

PS

there was a Learn and Master Rock Hits that Legacy produced from all the Gibson Skills House players and not produced from Steve although I think Legacy used the same sort of naming as in Learn and Master Rock Hits.

it didn't follow a step by step instruction that we're used to getting from Steve K.
