Hi I seem to be a bit of a mess....

so I wore a brace for the last 4 weeks hoping the injury to my left hand would be healed.. The injury happened 7 weeks ago but I was misdiagnosed. I couldn't play guitar or uke this whole time....(after the correct diagnosis and most likely did damage for the 3 weeks I played with the torn ligaments)...saw the hand surgeon today. Said I need an Mri and possible surgery..... MRI scheduled for Friday...

I know it could be worse so I'm trying to be positive but today I'm pretty bummed....

Sorry to hear about your hand . Hope they find the problem and correct it soon and get you back playing. If it is torn and they fix it be prepared for a lot on pain. Good Luck.

Your injury and appearance is so close to what my wife did during a fall at DFW airport that it is uncanny. Same hand, bummer was, she was left handed like me. She broke her two fingers, ring finger and small finger. They ended up having to free the tendons that had adhered to the sheath in her hand. The tendons are routed up the hand to the wrist through a sheath. It was minor surgery but she was out of using it for a few weeks then physiotherapy for a while. But it healed.

Good luck and quick healing

oh boy!! that is something. Well I'm not looking forward to the MRI but I'm looking forward to figuring out how to fix this so I can play again..that is the WORST part about all this....in my life when things go awry I always had my guitar...even when I couldn't sing for 8 years...I had my guitar....

So i'm hoping to know  a lot more on Monday when I see the doc again

If the worst that can happen occurs, you can  always play left handed. Don't scoff, totally doable. You have the knowledge already, you just need to get the physical aspects going again. Jimi Hendrix could play guitar right or left handed.

Maria,

I really don't know what to say, you just keep getting obstacles in your way!   I know you are a fighter, and this will not keep you down !  I'll be thinking of you and wishing you the most speedy recovery possible !!!

Besides, you always have Saint Vincent by your side !

Maria:

I forgot to mention that my wife found something that really helped her hand. You probably know a lot more about it than I would. It was a wax bath for soaking your hands. The wax is warm so liquid. You keep putting your hand in it and the wax hardened. She said it warmed and soothed deeper into her hand. Just a thought. You just peel off the wax, and it makes some weird shapes. Put the wax back in the bath and that's it for cleanup.

Hurry up and heal.

Oh Dan, it's nothing compared to all you went through. But I so seem to be accident prone these last couple of years...and yes St. Vincent will be there...holding my good hand I hope. (someone said they let the spouse in if they don't have metal on etc)

Take care

hey everyone: I didn't get the news I wanted but I got the news I expected. Next Tuesday I will be going in for surgery to repair the torn ligaments. He said the MRI showed a complete separation of the ligament from the bone. He said he will roughen up the bone. Drill a hole in it and attach an anchor and that will hold the ligament to the bone so it can heal. The swelling is fluid that built up and that is a big indication as well that it's not healing on it's own...

It's going to be a long time before I can play guitar and I'm truly sad about that. It's been over 5 weeks since I played (and 8 since I hurt myself )

it's going to be at least two to three months more......

So next tuesday April 3rd if you could say a little prayer that it's successful that would be awesome. I know it could be worse but i'm just feeling a little blue today. I'll get used to the idea and be fine...

Take care and thanks for being my friends for almost 7 years!! * I joined aug 2011 wow ~~

At least you know that it can be fixed and with some time and a little rehab, you will be back at it.

Hurry up and heal now Maria

Oh, my, Maria, that’s disappointing news. And just when your finger had recovered. I’ll be thinking of you next Tuesday. It'll be all better, soon.
