I’ve been working on the rhythm for this song as part of new material  I added to the Blues Course.  It got me thinking about the song and it’s lyrics. There seems to be a lot of questions about the song and it’s lyrics. It seems that Port Chicago in California might be the Chicago referenced in the lyrics and not the Windy City.

The book I added to session 1 is Hal Leonard’s “Blues Guitar.”

That song definitely has some confusing lyrics. Check out the following Wikipedia entry:

Yes, there is.  Confusion that is.  I have always just assumed it was a reference about Chicago and came about as a result of the exodus of people, including blues guys like Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy, from the delta south to Chicago looking for jobs.  I further thought it came about the same time.  It really represented Chicago blues to me.

I never realized it was written by Robert Johnson long before this migration.

Thanks a lot @Triple-o and @Dave White  (for confusing me😉)

Which Hal Leonard "Blues Guitar"?  There are so many of them.  I have Chicago Blues Rhythm Guitar by Bob Margolin that looks really good and I hope to start in the very near future:00121575FCz.thumb.jpg.8678dd2fac1091b4a911c877b7a5aa64.jpg
