Mississippi Seeds

This morning I worked on “Ain’t Gonna  Worry My Life Anymore” by BB King.

The song is in the Key of B. It seems like King did a lot with the major pentatonic scale. It easy to see why we have the BB boxes when you are in the keys of B major and B minor. D# and E are two of  the notes that open the boxes. Lately I ‘d been stuck in Am pentatonics so it was “light bulb moment” when I tried to figure out how to play this song and solo. The light bulb just illuminated the difficulties of using lead sheets.

I didn’t know Indianola Mississippi  was watermelon country, (combining Indian and  Native American Indian princes Ola) Had I known  this the last time I’d seen King before he died  I would have given him a “ Real Water Melon ” from Rocky Ford Colorado where summer  days are 110 degrees in the shade and  the night air dipping  into the fifties. Perfect  for growing crisp melons that are loaded with sugar from the Arkansas River Valley.
