Pretty hard to believe.  Sweetwater has them for that $99 and free shipping.  I didn't like some of the solid colors (I know some people will) but I like the Cherry Sunburst.  How can you go wrong at that price.

This summer I'm getting involved in some open mic jams and I wanted an inexpensive lightweight guitar to take to them, so I recently bought an Epiphone Special ii LP. It did need a little work so I swapped out the tuners (which admittedly are useless) and the nut. I also levelled and recrowned the frets but that's something I do on nearly every guitar I buy. I had a set of pickups ready to install in it but decided not to in the end as the stock ones were actually pretty good. These low end Epiphones are great for the money they cost.

Hey Ice9 my profile picture is of my Epiphone LPS ii plustop.

I do not play it much but it looks nice on my wall!

I thought about selling it once but it is such a nice looking thing that I just could not do it, I am glad that I have kept it. Perhaps one day I will do some work on it myself.

That's a great looking guitar. I might even spring for one of those if I see one pop up on ebay. I think they're great guitars. The only disappointment for me was the tuners but that was easily sorted with an inexpensive set of Wilkinsons. Such good fun to play :)

I have a bit of a thing for lower end guitars. I love to tweak them until they're awesome. Something I'd be very reluctant to do on a $2000 Gibson.  I can see myself acquiring one of those SL's actually. I reckon it would be great with some P90s in it. :P

Thank you for the tip about the Wilkinsons tuners, I may do that one day.

I like the SL in the video, I'm a bit of a fool for turquoise or pacific blue! It would be a great starter for the project you are thinking about.

I want one! I think it would be a great way to add a second guitar with single coils to give me the Tele/Strat like tone. For the price of a pedal you can get a really nice guitar. It's perfect for first electric guitar for beginners.

I just noticed, in a John Lee Hooker video for Boom Boom, he is playing an Epiphone guitar. Grainy, not sure of the model.

I sent it to my friend. He ordered the Turqoise one for his early birthday gift. I want the Blue one. They are all backordered at Sweetwater and Musician's Friend. Sweetwater does have a black one the last I checked, but they say the other colors are coming soon.

I bought one, it was delivered 4 days ago, no problems with mine. action is good, no buzzing, no crackles or pops from turning knobs.  Needs better tuners, but mine stays in tune well enough at the moment.

for 99 bucs its a steal, mine has good fit and finish and even the strings were usuable out of the box.
