Let's work together as the Guitar Gathering Community to write and record a song. It will be a team effort and anyone at any level is welcome to join in the fun.

I will pick up any tasks that do not get volunteered for.

The production tasks (please volunteer for tasks shown in black)

1)  Fretless has Chosen a tempo, time signature, key and a song structure with bars and chords.

2) Nutty1 has produced a drum track.

3) Nutty1 has recorded a bass track.

4) Nutty1 has recorded a rhythm guitar track.

5) rkl312 will do the lyrics and choose the song title.

6) rkl312 will record the vocals.

7) Fretless will do the lead guitar track.

8) Nutty 1 provided intermediate mixes to enable collaborators to record their parts. Fretless did the final mix.

Please note

  • Please do not negatively criticise others' contributions; this is a learning opportunity open to all Guitar Gathering Forum members.

This collaboration has now been completed. We ended up making this song called "Don't Look Back"

Sadly I'm a little short on talent to be much help.  Maybe with vocals or lyrics.   It's a great idea though.  We could all go up to accept our Grammy next year.?

Hello @rkl312, thank you for offering to join in. ?? I will put you down for vocals and lyrics.

With this being our first Guitar Gathering collaboration I am thinking that I should have posted some more information about it. So here it is for you and everyone else who is interested.

This collaboration is about us getting together to have some fun and to learn from each other as all musicians do. We are not in this to produce a hit record, but I do not rule out that possibility!?

I joined in with my first collaboration back on the old L&M forum. I was scared when  I first joined in, I admit that. But Fretless, who was running it at the time and the other people who were working on that collaboration were really great to me. I had volunteered to do the rhythm guitar track and in the end I only managed 1 strum per bar and I had problems getting my track exported in a usable way. Those guys helped me so much and they were really kind to me and if I remember rightly we turned out a great song. It was these collaborations that launched me into doing my own songs. I am and will always be eternally grateful to them.

Here is a link to my first collaboration (look for "yellow" that was me!)

https://community.learnandmaster.com/index.php?/topic/34563-lmg-student-collaboration-16-an-instrumental-song/

We do not have to have top notch fully busy guitar parts/tracks, it is the sum of the parts that people will be listening to. Sometimes less is more. The fun thing about doing these collaborations is watching it all come together!

We are all musicians, let's make music! ??????

Let's start at the beginning, with item 1.

Full stops (UK), periods (US) or dots (if you prefer) indicate the start of a new bar, written that way so that you know that, for example, D and A on the first line are beats 1 and 3 of the second bar (or measure).

4/4, key of A, 124bpm

Intro (4 bars):
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A

Chorus (8 bars):
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A

Verse:
.C#m        .F#m
.Bm        .E
.C#m        .F#m
.Bm        .E

Chorus:
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A

Instrumental verse:
.C#m        .F#m
.Bm        .E
.C#m        .F#m
.Bm        .E

Chorus:
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A
.A        .D    A
.A        .E    A

Refrain: (the last line of the chorus repeated twice):
.A        .E    A
.A        .E    A

Closing chord (to match the drum track):
.A

Edited by Fretless
Added one more bar to match the drum track

I will help but I have only written a couple of things and they were for my own enjoyment.  So I hope this is also a team effort.  As far as my vocal ability, that is certainly up for discussion!  I guess I'm trying to say I'm shy and more than a little doubtful!

Do not worry, helping each other and learning is what these collaborations are all about. The team will help you if and when you need it.

Anyhow, you have heard me singing, I am no master of the voice! ?

The next step is the drum track. Real or electronic (eg. Garageband) is acceptable.

Anyone interested? ?

Thanks for getting this off the launch pad Mandy. I miss the contributions that were part of the old forum that Ian and Fretless fronted previously. I will be on an extended trip in Feb. and am not sure whether I would have the time (or the guitar with me) to contribute this month, but I may be in reserve for something if things get stalled. I am not particularly skilled at mixing or creating drum tracks however. I do encourage all who have even the remotest interest in recording and joining in a pool of fun  to jump in and play.

I played it using the basic strum pattern for 4/4 time.  I'm unclear what the dots mean and the a and e on the 1st and 3rd beats.  So if someone wants to post how it should sound I would be grateful!

Here is a recording simply to demonstrate the song structure, chords and tempo.

Here is a breakdown of the intro. To make it clearer I have illustrated it with an easy strumming pattern.

I have produced a drum track for this collaboration.

It is just something I cobbled together from GarageBand. I confess that I am not very good at drum tracks so I hope this will work. Please feel free to comment on this as I really really need to learn more about this.

Have you set up a box account for upload contributions, as we used in previous collaborations? Syncing could be an issue without one. Fretless may still have an active link.

Hello Greg, I created a new one this morning on my own account after realising that we can only upload small files directly to this forum. I invited Fretless to be an editor of the new "GG1"  folder.

I recieved a message saying that Fretless had accepted the invite so I think that it is working.

Thank you for asking Greg, I really appreciate your kindness and help.

OK I've come up with some lyric ideas.  Let me know what you think...

All the leaves are brown

And the sky is grey...

Just kidding. :D  Working on it though.  Harder to do than expected.

You may find it easier once we have the drums, bass and guitar recorded, especially the guitar.

NB. Don't forget that my recording was purely to demonstrate the song structure; I have done my part in this collaboration so someone else will be playing the rhythm guitar part and that means the feel of the song is likely to be different.

Yes, great advice.

I have always found that it is good to have a bunch of song ideas developing at this stage. When the bass guitar and the rhythm guitar tracks are done then you can start laying your ideas onto the track. I have often found that the strumming pattern of the guitar part suggested the number of syllables in each line.

I am working on the bass and rhythm guitar parts just in case we do not get any takers. It is good experience for me.

OK folks, I have created a bass track for our song. I recorded it using my Lindo Purple Dove bass guitar routed through a Yamaha THR5 set on clean and I used Modern Stack as the amp in GarageBand. I am not a great bass player so do not expect too much! xD

I have replaced the link so it now goes to the correct track. Sorry about that folks!
