Great topic, Steve! Chord tone soloing in a Jazz context is what I am working on at the moment (and for many months to come).

I was moderating the The new Guitar Gathering YouTube feed (with DougH).  It  was crystal clear, great audio, NO lags, skips and totally in sync . A LOT of new - comers there as well , said they tried both and YT was way better  bye bye Ustream  YouTube will attract huge numbers of new viewers imho..:D

Steve, the only issue appears to be that we can't post links there... there must be a way.

Neil,

I'm so glad that the YouTube feed went well.  I know that I , (as the channel owner) was able to put links over in the chat on YouTube.  But I'll dig around and see if I can figure out how to get links to work for others.

I would recommend to look into it directly with Youtube, because as far as I know only the streamer and the moderators can post links in Youtube chat. They made it this way to prevent spam.

Viewers are limited to 200 characters and a maximum of 3 submissions every 30 seconds. Event owners are not subject to the frequency threshold. Viewers cannot post special characters, URLs or HTML tags.

We can work around it by writing example(dot)com, but it's not ideal.

Also, I recommend that you put all the videos from ustream on the Youtube channel as well. You could monetize them, but that's up to you.

Finally, you should be elligible for a custom URL from Youtube, for example youtube.com/c/guitargathering. It's free, I'm pretty sure you meet all the criteria to be eligible and it would be better than the current long chain of random characters.

You can get the instructions for that here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2657968?hl=en

Another point was raised on chat about how soon the Live Lesson would be available for viewing following the lesson itself. As of this time I couldn't find it.... (I'd like to review it too :-)

@Steve Krenz

Steve, Thanks for the great lesson.

I am currently learning chord tone soloing and have a question on arpeggios. Should I learn triad arpeggios first, and then learn 7th chord arpeggios?

Or should I skip learning triad arpeggios as the notes are anyhow part of 7th chord arpeggios?

Wim.

Wlm,

Both are helpful to know but, for me, the 7th chord arpeggios are more useful in actual playing situations - particularly in a jazz style.

Hope this helps!

@Steve Krenz

Thanks for your reply, Steve.

I think I will combine them I my learning routines, starting by playing the arpeggio without the 7th a couple of times and then include the 7th.

Wim.

Steve - can you lease give some guidance on right hand technique when playing chord melody jazz. For example, how to ensure the melody notes ring out when you are probably playing them with your weakest fingers.

David,

I will try to discuss and illustrate this on the next live lesson next week.

Great question.

That's really great - it will be so helpful.
