I have been looking for something really light for some time.  After talking to a couple of the PRS owners on here, and talking with a few on other forums, I had decided that a PRS Hollowbody I or II was the guitar.  I was already a huge believer in PRS guitars.   I had looked at a couple on Reverb, at Chicago Music Exchange and elsewhere and made a couple offers but never ending up owning one.

Last week my wife and I were in a local guitar shop and this one was hanging on the wall.  Way up high where the nice ones are!  The owner had to get it down!  He handed it to me and my wife immediately said, "That is really pretty!"   I played it and fell in love both with the way it played and the tone.  My wife actually told me to make on offer on it but I didn't. I don't know why!  I told her wanted to think on it.   It has driven me crazy all week and I went back and brought it home tonight!

It is feather light and has this gorgeous hollowbody tone.  It has McCarty Humbucker Pickups. There is just no doubt at this point that this is going to be my "go to" guitar.

Really nice Ron.  How does the weight compare to the Gibson 335 or 339's?

Dan,

Barb may becoming an enabler.   But she only goes along.  She doesn't encourage me like Diane does you!!!!  ;)  I tell you about guitars, like the Gary Clarke, Jr. Casino, and you tell me, "Don't tell Diane.  She'll make me buy it!"

Thanks, Neil.  The finish is officially "Whale Blue".  And, yeah, I'm really getting to like the hollow/semi-hollow tone.  It was all driven by weight but I am getting to like the tone.  Which is weird because I'm a Clapton/SRV/Santana guy.

Unc, even lighter.  I don't know the weight of a 335.  I'm sure I could find specs but if anything I think my 325, which is a hollowbody, would be lighter than a semi-hollowbody 335.  This is significantly lighter than my 325.  And I have a Epi Casino Coupe which is the comparable model to a 339.  This is even lighter, slightly, than it.

My wife thinks I don' play enough to warrant another guitar.

She's partially right..  but I still have a eye for at least 3 guitars right now.

Enjoy the new guitar smell

Ron, congratulations on the guitar and your anniversary to a great lady. I am also a Santana guy and I have been casually looking for a PRS hollow body to go with my PRS Santana. I would love to read your review of this fine instrument. Oh and keep it stock for a while, the guys on the PRS Forum would have you stripping it immediately.

Considerably lighter.  My PRS HBII is 6.4 pounds, while my ES-335 is 9.0,  It is my lightest electric guitar, with my Tom Anderson Hollow T in second place at 7.4.

CapM, your 335 weighs 9 lbs!!!!!  :o  That shocks me.  That is approaching Les Paul weight.  I had no idea.

That is sweet in whale blue. Congratulations, very clean and classy looking. Feather light with good tone. Great to have wives who can appreciate a special guitar. Enjoy hearing the good news.

Congrats!

I've actually had a mild case of GAS for a semi-hollow lately.  Some may remember that Semi-hollow is not a strain of GAS that had affected me in the past, but now you are causing a flare up with this awesome PRS.

Wow, nice find. I love playing my PRS II hollowbody, and yes it is ultra-light. For those of us who have had back surgery as myself, a wonder to behold....or should I say , just to hold. Love it and yours is a stunner!. Enjoy and congrats.

Greg, I thought that I had posted my reason for wanting a light guitar but looking at my OP I didn't.   After 3 spinal fusions I can't play standing for more than a few minutes with my any guitar that I currently have.  I know that I need to play some standing and it's going to be a train wreck when I do it.    When I get a strap for the new one it is going to happen.

People don't realize even lifting a heavy guitar, like my LP,  to my lap to play seated is painful.  But I don't know why I'm telling you this!

Some I'm loking forward to getting back to practicing standing up.  But dreading what it is going to sound like:o:(

Not sure why you are sweat'n it Ron. There always seems to be this stigma with guitarists that the best will only play standing and from memory. Long ago I decided that I will play and perform in a manner which suits me. During a 10 song set I will sit on a stool for 8 of them, only standing when I  share a mic with another player. Play for yourself first, and go slowly, trust your own skills.

One extra thought since we were talking about straps in another link. I have noticed that an extra width strap of 3" is much more comfortable. After using the 3" strap, the 2" feels like it is digging in.
