Although I’m not too fussy about pick brands, I find that size, shape and thickness make a difference in tone or effect, as well as my playing comfort. I have a range of Dunlop picks and depending on the guitar and/or style I’m going for, I’ll use a different one. For instance, I use MAX-GRIP JAZZ III, ULTEX JAZZ III 2.0 or Big Stubby 3.0 for jazz guitar.

I didn't explain  why I use a .38 pick it is because I can use it to strum and I can choke up on it and make it harder when picking notes. release it and back to strumming. or you can bend it to make it harder, one fit all . I like that

I use either Cool Picks or the plain nylon Dunlops, for my acoustics and Dava Controls (nylon) for my electrics.

Its kind of a bummer that I like these brands as they are a bit harder to locate in stores than some other picks, so I tend to keep a supply of them around rather than risk not having one on hand.

I tried these. The raised pattern seemed to get gummed up and lost their efficiency too fast. That's why I switched to the Snarling Dog Brain Picks. The grips stays effective a lot longer for me.

I need to try the Blue Chips as the seem to be a bit of a favorite. I play guitar with my fingers primarily, have hundreds of  picks of all shapes, sizes, materials (even one made from a cymbal) but the ones I do use now primarily are the V Pick Traditional ultra light (red) and the Kodiac Crossover with the velcro strap, the latter is useful for one like me with a history of thumb issues.

Is that your glass-topped desk? If so, I'm curious as to what it looks like. How do the Blue Chip compare to the Ultex? I used to have an Ultex but needed something with more grip.

Yes! This is my 'free craigslist piano desk' - it was headed to the dump if we didn't get it. I could never destroy a working instrument, so this was perfect for my project. Some parts had to be replaced (sides, bottom), and added the glass top. Getting all the strings off and the harp out was... interesting, lol! Probably $200 investment paint and all.

As far as the picks go... I like the bluechip better than the Ultex - it definitely has a 'tackier' feel to it. But, they are pricy.... :)

What a great idea with the desk! Love it! :x Will keep in mind the Blue Chip have some tackiness to them. I wasn't aware of that. I wish I could find a local store that carries them. Thanks for all the info!

I like Jim Dunlop Nylon picks.  I use .38 or .46 mm for strumming and .73 mm for picking.  Great picks last forever and have a nice grip.

They aren't pretty.  The lighter the color the lighter the pick. The black picks are the thickest and white is thinnest.

Just started trying to use this for fingerpicking.  It's hard to get used to.

Spend three or four weeks with it and it will begin to feel like you have always used one!

I did purchase one (during my great pick quest)... and, I didn't like it. The one I purchased felt too brittle and I was looking for something with a softer feel.

I always come back to V-Picks. I have the V-Pick acoustic and electric packs which gives you a great selection of picks. V-Picks do not slip in my experience. I would definitely buy V-Picks again.
