I was watching the Robben Ford lesson and he mentioned his amp;  A 1983  Dumble. Reverb has a used  1984 for only $98,000. I was going to buy it, but then I noticed  it said local pick-up only.Well, that adds $66.00 for gas to the price, putting it out of my price range.

Bonamassa loves them too.. he's been known to own up to 6 at one time (yes he corners the market on everything), then sold most of them.. think he has 2 now.

on Bonamassa's last album he mixed Fender Twinns (80w ver) with his Dumble's

When Robben Ford was here last fall, there were people taking pictures with him, but also taking pictures with his Dumble 😆

Call me whatever you like, but if you pay $98,000 for an amp, you are the Dumbbell.

A Dumble that was used by Joe Bonamassa on one of his recordings sold on Reverb for $175K.

That being said, if you check out the new line of Synergy products, they have modules created by Amp gurus to be used in their amp heads. A Dumble ODS module is expected in the next few months. Expected price of $1200.

Or you could buy a Helix for $1600 (or Helix LT for $1100) and have a Dumble-esqe model (Litigator)  along with 59 other amps and several thousand dollars worth of pedal effects.

JB might hear the difference, but I guarantee your audience won't and since most of us can't afford the real thing this is as close as most mortals will get.

When is was building amps (of course not playing) I could hear the difference between a Zoso capacitor and a Malory capacitor when I was testing for different tone.

So if "I" could it, I'm sure Robben, Joe, Kenny Wayne and other pro's can here the difference between a "real" Dumble vs a simulation

The Axe Fx III has an unbelievable Dumble ODS like amp in it.

Right.  Was the difference worth $98,000 to $175,000.00 though?

I would sound just as bad on a $5 amp.

Wait a second I do sound just as bad on an acoustic too.

since we're 'arguing' the flickled world of collectors and what they will pay.

(note LP's from the 50's go for north of $100k but Fenders from the 50's barely top $50,000)

Check out Trainwreck amps

I'm curious as to what owning a Dumble is really like, not that I will ever own one, or that I could probably even realize it if I did. On the live lesson Ford said it was the only thing he really used (or something to that effect) and that nothing really compared to it. I also noticed on Joe Bonamassa's instagram page that he had a popular Dumble clone in one of his photos, and someone asked him how that amp compared to a real Dumble and he said "It doesn't 🤷‍♂️". Must be something pretty special!

I reckon Gilmour's Stats will bring way more than that and many of the most prized LP's have some sort of provenance as well but I get your point.

I guess I never got the "collector" gene.  Never could get into coins, stamps, sports cards, etc. so I guess its no surprise I never really think of my guitars in terms of a "collection" just various implements of enjoyment.  Since I don't have the gene, I can't fathom the collector mentality.

I saw Robben Ford live many years ago and he was playing through his Dumble. It sounded great, BUT, to me, it's really just a bunch of corksniffing. It's more the mystery and romance of the brand than anything else.

As someone already said, paying that kind of money for an amp is obscene. play what sounds good to you an d you can afford. The rest is just fodder for a good discussion!

Maybe. They like the amps because they are more forgiving then other amp.  Smoother . So they dont have to work so hard, are be so picky about notes.  Who knows, That kind of money will buy a lot of lessons.

It's been written that most of these amps are not for Beginner's playing on 2 on the volume

Dumble, TrainWreck, Jim Kelly amp's they need to be played close to full volume to get the amp to open up and 'bloom' as they've been described.

Indeed..  Steve K reported that while filming (videoing?) Live Lessons with Robben Ford, the tone was excellent, but his volume incredibly LOUD. So loud that the sound man / producers had too much to handle balancing the mic's , and amps which unfortunately resulted in much of the audio being "inaudible" .  Too much of a good thing... (huh... eh? what didja say?
